Bangkok--15 Nov--Japan Foundation
The Japan Foundation, Bangkok has been supporting “World Children’s Haiku Contest”, which is organized by JAL and the JAL Foundation worldwide since 1964 and in Thailand since 1990. The purposes of this contest are to introduce to young students in Thailand Haiku, a traditional form of Japanese classic poetry expressing writers’ deepest emotions towards nature by only 17 syllables, to promote the joy of Haiku and to make them understand an art form of Japanese culture. We were granted the honor of HRH Princess Soamsawali’s gracious presence at the Award Presentation Ceremony every year.
For this year’s contest, under the theme of “House”, 172 schools sent 1,613 works from which 50 entries were chosen to be awarded and will be displayed in the exhibition. Please note that these Haiku poems are written along with cute pictures, which each child has drawn. You can enjoy the rich imagination and originality of Thai children!
