A routine Roadblock in this episode turned into a monumental task that made some of the teams quit … but with the Race being so unpredictable, will that spell disaster for them, or will it not matter in the end?
Fly Fly Away
The teams left the National Monument in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the same order that they arrived at the Pitstop.
Sahil & Prashant were the first team to leave. They made their way to the airport, only to discover that the terminal was still closed. Mardy & Marsio were the next to leave, already suffering leg pains and other stress of travelling. Howard & Sahran were next in line, followed closely by the other teams.
Chin, Throat, Groin!
Melody & Sharon almost came to blows with people at the airport, with Sharon teaching Melody, “Remember the combat training routine? Chin, throat, groin!” What could have happened??
I’m Sick…
Aubrey & Jacqueline desperately wanted a nice place to rest while waiting for the next flight. These girls who have not hesitated to use their beauty and charm and whatever tricks they can think of to help them in the race, had another trick up their sleeves again… with Jacqueline saying she was sick with a fever and trying their hardest to get into the airport lounge to rest! Would this “luxury” give the girls the much-needed rest for the challenges that lie ahead and give them an edge over the rest?
Other teams also took advantage of the time to prepare in other ways…what do you think the funny duo Mardy and Marsio would do?
Roadblock!
This Roadblock required one team member to dig within a marked plot on the beach, until they find a token, buried 40cm below the surface. Once the token was located, teams could exchange it for the next clue.
A physically demanding task — will the teams with physical strength advantage, like the Indian models and fitness instructor Sandy, have an edge over the rest?
Teams tried various ways of tackling the task, trying to gauge how far down they had to dig. The task became more difficult the longer the Teams stayed out there, with the sun taking its toll on the team member doing the digging.
To make matters worse, the teams did not know exactly what they were looking for, thus looking at every rock or piece of beach debris that was uncovered.
One hour into the dig, and the teams were not doing well at all. A couple of the teams became a little short-tempered… frustration began to set in…
Smart Alec?
Andy came up with a solution. If all the teams quit, they would all take a four-hour penalty — and be able to move on to the next challenge. But not all the teams wanted to quit. No one wanted to be the first team to give up.
Andy continued his campaign to get the other teams to give up, pretending that he had new information that he could not share with the other teams. Would he succeed? Would he dare to be the first team to give up, and risk being the only team to take the penalty?
The teams’ perseverance and determination were put to a serious test. The decision whether to give up and take the penalty, or to persevere till the end to find the token, might impact the final standing.
With the sun setting, and there were still teams digging on the beach, they were seriously wondering if they made the wrong decision…
Race to the Finish!
With some teams taking the penalty and some staying to find the token, all the teams arrived at the Pitstop not knowing really which position they finished. All they could do was run as fast as they could to the Pitstop mat, and hoped for the best as Allan announced the results to them…
