Conservatory of Music, Rangsit University together with Yamaha Corporation (Thailand) proudly presents Jazz Guitar Clinic and the concert debut of world renowned jazz guitarist 3 times Grammy award nominee Mike Stern, featuring Thai finest pianist Denny Euprasert, at the end of November 2006.
“This is the first time that one of the world’s finest jazz guitarists, Mike Stern, visits Thailand and performs on the same stage with Thai musician. Also he will conduct a Jazz Guitar Clinic at Rangsit University. This will be a great opportunity for our students and general people to join this guitar workshop with world class jazz guitarist.” said Sittikul Boon-itt, Conservatory of Music Associate Dean for Administration, Rangsit University.
It has been more than 30 years that Mike Stern take a glorious walks on the path of music with three times Grammy nominees. He is considered as a Guitar player icon for the present. At every show, the audience is always amazed with Mike’s ability to fuse Jazz music with Rock music.
His passion in Be-Bop jazz music is dated back to the day he started learning jazz guitar. In recording studio, Mike found that the result of Guitar effect which is normally used by Rock guitarist such as Distortion, Delay, and Feedback can create special sound to his music perfectly. His style is so unique, that people called it “Bop-n-Roll”.
Mike Stern has more than 10 albums with Atlantic Records. From his debut Upside Downside in 1986 till his latest album Who let’s the cats out(2006), Mike’s 1994’s Is What It Is and 1996’s Between The Lines, both of which received Grammy nominations. And again in 2001 his album Voices, his first foray into vocal music, earned Mike his third Grammy nominations.
Moreover, it will be another special occasion that Stern will perform on the same stage with one of the best Thai jazz band lead by Dr. Denny Euprasert, a famous jazz pianist of Thailand, who has won 2003 Down Beat Award for best student jazz pianist from United States.
Dr. Denny Euprasert said “I am honored to join Mike Stern in concert at Scalar Theatre. He is considered as the connection between Classic jazz and Modern jazz. Also he worked with many jazz legendary such as Miles Davis”
In addition, Mike has released his brand new album “Who Let the Cats Out” in September 2006. This will be special occasion for Thai audiences to hear and see his songs in the new album for the first time in Asia.

Jazz Guitar Clinic on the 29th of November 2006 at room 1-301 Arthit Ourairat Building. Rangsit University time 2-4 p.m. Registration fee 300 baht (Free for concert ticket holder)
