The Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University is introducing two very significant law programs designed to help lawyers and non - lawyers keep pace with the fast-changing world of international business.
The two new programs. Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Economic Law and Bachelor of Law degree, are tailored for those who wish to keep pace with the modern business world. Importantly, the programs provide flexibility for persons in other professions or occupations to now study law.
The Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Economic Law has been designed to provide for integration of knowledge in law, economic and business. Those with Bachelor Degree or Master degree in any field may apply as the program is not restricted to law graduates. The program is suitable for businessmen interested in specialized legal areas such as Tax and business, Law Relating to International Business, Settlement of Disputes in Business, Law on Business Planning and Criminal Law and Economic Crimes such as fraud. This program was created after the economic crisis in 1997 which caused so many businesses to go bankrupt through a lack of legal knowledge and expertise.
Assist. Prof. Tithiphan Chuerboonchai, Dean of the Faculty of Law, said, “For more than 50 years our Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University has produced lawyers with high morality and excellent qualifications, accepted by our society. In the global market, lawyers must keep in touch with international legal issues and developments. Legal knowledge and expertise must be developed to support our business development. We have, at our Faculty of Law at Chulalongkorn University, developed programs to enable people with different professional backgrounds to study law, although they may have no foundation in legal education.”
The second and new program, the Bachelor of Law Degree Program (after work program - 3 years), is open to graduates with a bachelor degree in any subject. After graduation the graduate will enjoy a number of legal career options as an attorney, a corporate lawyer and even a judge or diplomat. Those with bachelor degrees from local or international university are welcome to apply. Applications remain open until January 12th 2007 for both programs.
