Living in South Florida, we can easily travel to the Bahamas or Caribbean islands. A trip to a Hawaiian island is more arduous, but well worth it, particularly when that island is Kauai, a tropical paradise that basks amidst the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, some 20 minutes by air from Honolulu.
Formed six million years ago, the island encompasses roughly 550 square miles and is the northernmost island of the main Hawaiian Islands. Aptly called The Garden Island, it is easy to lose yourself in the quiet majesty of the lush tropical setting. Our recent visit confirmed that fact many times over.
Our trip included visits to three of Kauai’s premiere hotels, the Princeville Resort, the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa and the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club.
After arriving in the Lihue Airport in Kauai, we enjoyed a beautiful 45-minute drive up the northern coast of the island, passing a tropical paradise of majestic mountain pastures, quaint towns and beautiful Hanalei Bay on our way to the Princeville Resort. The entrance to this hotel dazzles you with a large infinity pool and grand lobby that brings the outdoors indoors. Bellmen draped us with leis of orchids to begin our Hawaiian experience. The huge tropically-appointed lobby is decorated in a Mediterranean style with granite and marble floors, large colorfully-painted wall hangings of this tropical paradise and comfortable furnishings, along with a hotel staff dedicating themselves to our every need.
Built in 1985, situated as the focal point of this 9,000-acre resort community, this 252-room luxury hotel with 51 suites is protected by the mountains of Bali Hai and the Pacific Ocean. There are four restaurants and lounges to enjoy gourmet dining at the beginning and end of your day.
