Most popular game downloads across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines to become regular monthly feature
Acme Mobile Pte Ltd today announced the ten most popular mobile games downloaded across Southeast Asia in 2006. Led by a pair of branded titles, Rambo on Fire and Miami Vice Mobile, the list was compiled from full price game downloads sold by Acme Mobile during 2006 via their Amob.com network of web and WAP sites across 5 Southeast Asian countries.
“While many people have heard the buzz about mobile games, they’re often confused about which games are good or popular,” says Paul Meyers, founder and CEO of Acme Mobile. “By publishing a list of our most popular Southeast Asian game titles, we hope that more people in Southeast Asia will feel comfortable about buying and playing mobile games.”
The Amob.com 2006 Top Ten Game List
1. Rambo on Fire
2. Miami Vice Mobile
3. Bimmer Street Racing 3D
4. Sim Babe
5. Manager Pro Football 2006
6. Absolute Puzzle Deluxe
7. Beershooter
9. Mobile Grand Prix
10. The Chronicles of Riddick
“We were quite surprised that the Top Ten List included both branded and un-branded titles, as well as a solid mix of action, sports and puzzle games,” continues Meyers. “This tells us that Southeast Asia’s mobile game consumers are interested in playing in a variety of game genres.”
“Many of our Top Ten games can be thought of as ‘casual games’ — bought and played not by hard-core gamers, but by people who want a great, fun experience, while they’re killing time — waiting for a taxi, on the bus from school or on the train to work. We think we’ll see more of these casual games being sold over the coming months, as they’re fun, easy to play and easy to buy,” says Meyers.
According to the consulting firm Ovum, the global market for mobile games will be about USD $4 billion in 2006, growing to USD $8.5 billion in 2010. Asia is expected to provide the largest share of this growth.
Acme’s Amob.com is the premiere mobile content distribution network in Southeast Asia, stretching across five Southeast Asian countries — Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines — mobile selling games, images, audio products and videos to the region’s 150+ million mobile subscribers via web, WAP and SMS.
“Our Amob.com channels are unique, as they stretch across almost all of Southeast Asia,” says Meyers. “Unlike other ‘Best of…’ lists, our Top Ten List is actually driven by sales in the region, making it much more focused and hopefully more useful to our Southeast Asian customers.”
