Blue Coat? Systems (Nasdaq: BCSI), the leader in secure content and application delivery, today announced that Tri Marine International Pte. Ltd, a global supplier of tuna and tuna supply-related services, has selected Blue Coat RA appliances to provide secure remote access and integrated host security for employees around the world to access corporate email and applications from both managed and unmanaged endpoints.
More comprehensive than a conventional SSL VPN product, Blue Coat RA appliances include capabilities for on-demand connectivity for both Web and non-Web applications; keylogger and frame grabber detection and suppression; active information control; host integrity checks; and browser security. The solution protects the data and session on managed and unmanaged clients against inadvertent information leakage or malicious data theft. Managed endpoints are corporately-owned computing devices managed by the company’s IT department. Unmanaged endpoints are typically employee’s home computers. Up to 75 percent of the company’s remote access is from unmanaged endpoints.

As an on-demand solution, Blue Coat RA does not require pre-installation or management of any client software. A temporary thin client installs transparently to the user when they are trying to access email or a corporate application. Unlike other SSL VPNs, Blue Coat RA never requires the installation of client software, such as a network
extension, and does not need local administrator rights. In addition, Blue Coat RA supports both Web and non-Web applications without any kind of URL re-writing or prior knowledge of an application or its protocol.
Besides offering clientless access, Blue Coat RA protects against inadvertent information leakage and malicious data theft at the endpoint. To thwart spyware, such as keyloggers and framegrabbers, Blue Coat RA performs a pre-authentication scan using specialized heuristics technology and then suppresses any suspicious processes during the user’s session. Functions such as Print, Print Screen, Save and certain clipboard operations that might expose sensitive data can be controlled or curtailed. Data stored by the browser is encrypted and then securely deleted at the completion of the session. Blue Coat RA can also check a variety of parameters—such as having the latest anti-virus or operating system update—on the host computer as a condition to allowing remote access.
