Bangkok--13 Feb--Thai AirAsia
Thai AirAsia launched today a nationwide Airbus A320 paint design contest as part of celebrations welcoming the entry of the A320 aircraft into its fleet.
The design contest, dubbed Airbus Painting: Excitement in Thai AirAsia’s Speedy Growth, will run from Feb 12 until April 16, 2007 and is open to all citizens and registered foreign residents of Thailand. The winning design will be painted on Thai AirAsia’s second brand new Airbus A320, which will be delivered to the airline in November this year.
Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, chief executive officer of Thai AirAsia, said, “We want the people of Thailand to celebrate with us as we welcome brand new Airbus A320 aircraft into Thai AirAsia’s fleet. We invite everyone in Thailand to join. Simply send to us your design illustrating the identity of the Thai people and the Thai AirAsia qualities of fun, professionalism and leadership.”
“The impending entry of the Airbus A320 aircraft into Thai AirAsia’s operations will greatly improve efficiency, reliability, cost-reduction efforts and service levels. It will help us strengthen our position as the leading low-fare airline in the region,” he added.
Thai National Artist for Literature Mr. Naovarat Pongpaiboon and internationally-renowned Thai watercolor artist Dr. Suchart Vongthong have joined Thai AirAsia in the project. Mr. Pongpaiboon composed a poem only for Thai AirAsia and its coming Airbus A320 aircraft.
“Thai AirAsia’s nationwide art contest is challenging to me and to the rest of the artistic and literary community. Thai AirAsia is bringing Thai poetry into the sky; it is as if I am able to write my verses in the sky,” Mr. Naovarat said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Suchart created a design sample to inspire everyone to join the contest.
“The design reflects freshness, happiness, warmth and friendliness. It is trendy and exciting. In short, it reflects the qualities of Thai AirAsia,” Dr. Suchart said.
“By giving everyone the chance to fly, Thai AirAsia contributes to the broadening of our youth’s horizons. This is why I strongly support its projects,” he added.
Thai AirAsia had ordered 40 brand new Airbus A320 aircraft to gradually replace the Boeing 737-300 it currently uses. The first A320 aircraft will be delivered this October, while the second and third aircraft will be delivered in November and December, respectively. All 40 A320 aircraft will make up Thai AirAsia’s fleet by 2013.
