GE, one of the world’s largest diversified companies, today inaugurated “GE Day” to showcase the company’s diverse business operations and latest technology offerings for its customers and partners.
The one-day event, held at the Plaza Athenee Hotel, is the first in South East Asia for GE and was attended by GE International President and CEO Mr. Nani Beccalli-Falco.
Mr. Nani Beccalli-Falco, who is responsible for directing GE’s strategies for growth outside the U.S.A., said, “For the first time, last year, Thailand generated revenues in excess of one billion U.S. dollars. It is GE’s largest market in South East Asia and contributes around 35% of our revenues in the region.”
“GE is one of Thailand’s largest foreign investor partners. We look forward to growing that partnership through our presence in many sectors that are essential for the development of Thailand and to enhancing their global competitiveness,” said Mr. Beccalli-Falco.
He said that GE would focus on innovation and know-how transfer as a way of strengthening its integration into the sectors in which it operates.
“Our recent 22 billion baht strategic investment in the Bank of Ayudhya serves as an illustration of this strategy. Bank of Ayudhya chose GE primarily because it saw in GE a partner that could bring know-how in many areas to help the bank fulfill its aspirations to become one of the top universal banks in Thailand,” he said.
GE Thailand President Mr. Pornlert Lattanan added, “‘GE Day is about letting our customers and potential customers experience at first hand the great breadth of our businesses and emerging technologies and the possibilities for leveraging that diversity to support their businesses.”
Mr. Pornlert said that GE expects to welcome more than 1,000 people to see GE’s pioneering technologies in healthcare solutions, aviation, energy, water, security, consumer and industrial, plastics, media and financial services.
Using the theme “Technology and Innovation”, the one-day event consists of interactive exhibitions and a series of seminars. Highlights include the Seno Advantage workstation for mammography, and the Logic Book, an advanced ultrasound system that is the size of a notebook computer.
Visitors can also experience the excitement of the Olympic Games, for which GE is one of the 12 worldwide partners, through the single-seat 'Olympic capsule' - a fun, eco-simulation ride through the Olympic Games. The upcoming Beijing Olympics 2008 is a showcase of GE’s unique position as a company that can handle complex, large-scale projects for an event with a great number of infrastructure solutions. GE supplies the Beijing Organizing Committee of Olympic Games (BOCOG) with natural gas combined-cycle turbines for electricity, heating, and cooling, waste water treatment with advanced membrane system, as well as advanced lighting and security systems.
According to Mr. Beccalli-Falco, “Looking ahead, the global environment remains positive for GE. 2007 will be the first year that businesses outside the U.S. account for a higher proportion of our revenues than businesses in the U.S. We expect our businesses in South East Asia to double in three years, with businesses in Thailand continuing to contribute the largest portion of revenues.”

“Globally, our businesses are positioned to capitalize on the drivers of the global economy — demand for infrastructure around the world, growth in emerging markets, favourable demographics, environmentally favourable technology, increasing use of digital connections, and robust liquidity in the financial markets,” he said.
GE International represents all of GE’s non-U.S. operations. Mr. Beccalli-Falco was appointed as President and CEO for GE International in January 2005, and is based in Brussels, Belgium. He is responsible for directing GE’s strategies for growth outside the U.S.A. A native of Italy, Mr. Beccalli-Falco has been with GE for 30 years, starting in 1975 in the United States. Prior to his current position, he served as President and CEO, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Canada.
Since the beginning of the year, GE has announced US$ 15 billion of acquisitions in fast growth platforms in Oil and Gas, Healthcare and Aviation.
