Bangkok--22 Feb--Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers
Though one of the dishes that best epitomizes the simple brilliance of Thai cuisine, surprisingly few foreigners have heard of “miang” and surprisingly few Thais enjoy it on a regular basis. The traditional “Miang Kham” is a tasty do-it-yourself dish with different tastes and textures coming together in one bite-sized package: “Miang” means “many” and “Kham” means “one bite”. It starts with various condiments — ginger, peanuts, cubes of fresh lime, dried shrimp, coconut flakes, and chili peppers. These are placed together on a dark green “bai cha pluu” (wild tea) leaf with a special sweet and tangy sauce and then rolled up and popped in the mouth.
Last year’s festival was a huge hit among Thai cuisine lovers, and now it’s time for Thara Thong “Miang” to make a comeback throughout March and April. With the creativity of Chef Charoensri Vatanayut, “miang” is taken to the next level with a special menu that will delight your tastebuds. Her expertly conceived and prepared dishes include Miang Samoon Prai (cubed boiled shrimp, ginger, galangal, lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves wrapped in lettuce and topped with Miang sauce), Miang Mee Grob (stir-fried marinated pork topped with lime cubes, pickled garlic, shallots and ginger on crispy noodles), Miang Woon Sen (boiled shrimp, pickled garlic, peanuts and vermicelli wrapped in lettuce and topped with Miang sauce), Miang Pla Tuna (combination of tuna, ginger, mango, shallots, peanuts, and mint leaves wrapped in iceburg lettuce and topped with Miang sauce), and Miang Ruam Mitr (cubes of boiled pork, shrimp, chicken, coconut flakes, fried garlic, shallots and ginger wrapped in Cha-Plu leaves and topped with Miang sauce).
Come experience these creative Miang creations at Thara Thong, where traditional cuisine and hospitality meet modern comfort and innovation, only at Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers. Open daily for lunch from noon to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The venue offers comfortable floor-seating, either at low tables in an air-conditioned teak pavillion or patio dining outside, both with fascinating views of the Chao Phraya River. In the evening, a professional musician performs classical Thai music. For more information or reservations, please call 02 266 9214 or e-mail [email protected]
