The Business Software Alliance (BSA) in Asia today announced that Monotype Imaging, CA, Inc., BEA Systems, Altium, INUS Technology, Frontline PCB Solutions - an Orbotech Valor Company, Tekla Corporation and Fairfield Language Technologies joined BSA recently, and are expected to be actively participating in BSA campaigns throughout Asia with immediate effect. Monotype Imaging joined as a worldwide member; CA, Inc. joined as a policy council member; Altium, INUS Technology and Frontline PCB Solutions joined as Asia regional members; Tekla Corporation joined as an anti-piracy member; whilst Fairfield Language Technologies joined as an internet piracy member.
BSA, which represents the world’s leading technology companies, promotes programs and policies that foster technology innovation, copyright protection, cyber security, trade and e-commerce.
“We are absolutely delighted that eight more companies have decided to join the BSA, and are expected to be active in Asia,” said Jeffrey Hardee, BSA Vice President and Regional Director for Asia-Pacific. “These companies will add tremendous value to BSA’s campaigns in Asia and their participation underlines the need for a united commitment to promote sound policies and legal framework that create a healthy business environment for the software industry and its hardware partners.”
According to an economic study conducted for BSA by international research firm, IDC, the greatest benefit to the economy will not come from a specific technology or application, but technology-driven productivity gains and skills training that lift the economy and standards of living. In Asia, nearly 54 percent of software programs were pirated in 2005. Reducing the software piracy rate by 10 points by 2009 could create 2 million new jobs, increase economic growth by US$135 billion, and generate another US$13.8 billion in tax revenues to Asian governments.
On joining the activities of BSA in Asia, Charles Hur, Vice President of INUS Technology said, “Being a leader in providing technology that makes 3D scanning an extremely powerful tool for a variety of applications, INUS Technology has made huge investments in ensuring our customers get the best solutions. As such, the threat of software piracy to our business is of grave concern to us. Hence, we are most excited about joining the BSA in the fight against software piracy”.
Positive views were also echoed by Ari Nassi, Area Director of Tekla Corporation, who said, “Tekla is very pleased to join the BSA in its software anti-piracy crusade. We view joining the BSA, not only as an important step to protecting our own IP copyright, but also our customers’ investment in our software.”
