Bangkok--7 Mar--Thai AirAsia
Extra low airfare heats up the excitement in Thai AirAsia’s Bangkok-Xiamen route, which will very soon have daily flights between the two cities.
Thai AirAsia offers extra low airfare at only 899 baht (CNY 198) for online bookings made from March 6 to 11, 2007 and travel from March 19 to April 27, 2007. The offer heightens the excitement created by the increase in flight frequency between Bangkok and Xiamen from four times a week to once daily beginning this March 25.
The price is for one-way airfare and excludes tax, fuel surcharge and other applicable fees.
“Thai AirAsia’s low airfares make it possible for everyone to visit some of the most fascinating cities of Asia. Now everyone can fly between Bangkok and Xiamen any day of the week. These two cities are major crowd drawers. We are committed in helping Asia gain a better position in the tourism world map. This is our way of encouraging tourism in the region,” said Tassapon Bijleveld, chief executive officer of Thai AirAsia.
The increase in flight frequency to daily comes less than two years after Thai AirAsia began flying to Xiamen. The Bangkok-Xiamen route opened in April 2005. The route enjoyed an average load factor of 85% in 2006.
Xiamen, dubbed as China’s Garden by the Sea, is among Asia’s most famous cities. Xiamen offers visitors a wonderful mix of spectacular natural sceneries and vibrant city entertainment. Among its most famous destinations is the virtually pollution-free Gulangyu Island, where visitors can enjoy clean air and lush surroundings. Other interesting destinations are Xiamen Underwater Sea World, where visitors can feed turtles and baby sharks; Wanshi Botanical Garden, which houses over 4,000 plant varieties and The Temple of the Kingdom of Heaven; Big Egg Bowling Alley, which also offers indoor go-carting; Xiamen Cultural Relics Store, where fine porcelain and exquisite art objects are sold; Xiamen Beach Area, which offers a view of nearby Jinmen Island; and the breathtaking Zhongshan Park.
Equaling the sceneries’ ability to draw in tourists are Xiamen’s culinary offerings. The city boasts of an extensive array of food ranging from delectable traditional Chinese dishes to international fare. It is famous for its seafood - including lobsters and abalones — and for a traditional dish called Wall-Jump Buddha, which is cooked with over 30 ingredients.
Meanwhile, Bangkok draws in tourists largely with the help of its shopping centres, ancient temples, and spicy food.
In the northern part of Bangkok is Chatuchak Market, arguably the kingdom’s most popular bargain shopping centre. Pratunam, which is easily accessible from downtown Bangkok, is an alternative to Chatuchak. Boutiques offering luxury products crisscross the city.
Bangkok is also home to the awe-inspiring Grand Palace and its Wat Phra Kaeo, which houses a 14th-century emerald Buddha image; Vimanek Mansion, the world’s biggest golden teak building; the famed Jim Thompson House; river cruises on the Chao Phraya, great spas and beauty centres. Royal and traditional Thai massage shops abound in the city.
Bangkok’s food is renowned the world over for the adventure it offers to the taste buds. Bestselling dishes such as tom yum kung and the noodle dish pad thai are readily available in most restaurants. Its fruits, whether fresh or preserved, have remained popular purchases for tourists.

Thai AirAsia flies to nine domestic and 10 international destinations. Its domestic destinations include Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, Krabi, Narathiwat, Phuket, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani. Its international destinations include Xiamen, Macau, Phnom Penh, Yangon, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Penang and Singapore.
Thai AirAsia is acquiring 40 brand new Airbus A320 aircraft, the first of which will be received in October 2007.
