SMC has held a long-established reputation among Thai healthcare professionals as the manufacturer of high quality yet affordable branded generic pharmaceutical products.
SMC was co-founded in 1946 by “Kroek Bholanivas M.D.” who served as CEO of the Company for over 20 years. The initial objective was to manufacture and distribute injection for the treatment of malaria towards the end of World War II.
The company gradually expanded its product line to other therapeutic classifications and pharmaceutical dosage forms. Today, the company supplies the health market with more than 40 high quality generic products with a strong presence in four therapeutic categories: asthma and allergy, cardiovascular, anti-viral and eye-ear group.
SMC was among the first pharmaceutical companies that qualified for the GMP certificate awarded by the FDA authorities of Thailand. In 2000, SMC was accredited with the quality standard ISO 9002 which was later updated to the advanced version of ISO 9000 version 2000 in the year 2003. SMC also strived to implement the ISO 17025 system to its laboratory and became the first SME pharmaceutical company to be accredited with ISO 17025 in 2003
SMC hires global consultant company to improve production facilities to be in compliance with PICs GMP, which is the latest Good Manufacturing Practice system adopted by the Ministry of Health .
SMC continues to invest in Research and Development section by cooperating with many universities’ Faculties of Pharmacy and Science and both local and international business partnership in order to launch at least 10 products into the market in the next 5 years.
SMC will launch new products for several chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetic and hyperlipidemia in the next 5 years . SMC ‘s new products would result in the saving of the country’s foreign exchange of approximately two billion Baht for importing dosages .
