Bangkok--9 Mar--TCEB
The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) today launched ASEAN MICE 2007, the first ASEAN conference and exhibition for the Meetings industry in Thailand, with more than 180 companies joining its efforts to promote Thailand to become the center of the region's MICE industry. The four-day event is expected to generate income of over 100 million baht Mr. Kajit Habanananda, Director-General of the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for ASEAN MICE 2007, presided over the opening ceremony, noting that: Thailand's MICE industry has grown rapidly in recent years, making more and more important contributions to many sectors of the Thai economy. At the same time, it generates tremendous incomes for the country, while providing more jobs for people in many different fields. Growth in the MICE industry currently averages 20 percent a year. Because of this, the Thai government has given more importance to support the MICE businesses by pushing Thailand to become the center for MICE in the ASEAN region by 2010. Policy and plans have been set up between related organizations, such as the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, to aggressively compete for business in both local and international markets. "The promotion of our MICE business will be channeled through supporting and pushing the potential of the Thai private sector in other countries, which we believe will bring many benefits to our country." Some 180 organizations will participate in ASEAN MICE 2007, including professional convention organizers, professional exhibition organizers, tourism operators, venue owners, hotels and suppliers. The event will bring together the industry's key players, making it the first of its kind in Thailand. "It's a successful pilot project because we have received support from both private and public organizations. The MICE industry is alert and better recognized. With the 180 companies and organizations at the event, business transactions will be created among exhibitors and also with visitors. The business value should be not less than 100 million baht throughout the four-day event. In addition, the gathering of the best MICE operators indicates the readiness of Thailand to serve as a centre for the MICE industry in the region by 2010," Mr. Kajit said. ASEAN MICE 2007 will be held during 8 - 11 March 2007 at Challenger 2, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani from 10.00 - 19.00 hrs. For further information please visit www.aseanmice.com
