True Corporation Plc subsidiary True Move today announced it has signed a roaming agreement with iPass, a global provider of services that unify enterprise mobility. Under this agreement, iPass users will soon be able to access over 4,000 Wi-Fi hotspots when they visit Thailand.
iPass provides global broadband connectivity services to enterprises whose users need Internet and corporate network access when they travel. Customers can use a single account and easy-to-use interface to access the Internet through the iPass Mobile Office service, which combines multiple access technologies and hundreds of provider networks into an easy-to-use solution covering over 160 countries around the world.
“This new partnership will generate revenues from iPass customers who use True Move’s Wi-Fi hotspots when they visit Thailand, while offering them greater convenience,” said Mr. Non Ingkutanon, Deputy Director - Head of Wireline Broadband Service of True Corporation Plc, “International business travelers need to get on the Internet frequently, and our agreement with iPass will make it easy for their users to enjoy high-performance True Move Wi-Fi connectivity.”
The iPass Mobile Office service currently offers mobile workers Wi-Fi connectivity at over 78,000 enterprise-ready hotspot locations worldwide through roaming agreements with approximately 100 Wi-Fi hotspot providers. It also includes dial-up, Ethernet in hotels, and 3G mobile data in Asia, Europe and North America. Each quarter, nearly one million corporate users rely on iPass services for remote connectivity, including hundreds of the world’s largest companies.
iPass aims to provide end users a virtual office environment via its award-winning iPassConnect universal client software. For the IT managers, iPass simplifies the use and administration of desktops, laptops and handheld devices across a ubiquitous broadband access footprint, integrated within the customer’s existing security, networking and management infrastructures.
The agreement with iPass will enhance True Move’s brand image globally as a leading Wi-Fi provider while eventually expanding True Move’s own Wi-Fi roaming service to many other countries.
The iPass agreement is part of True Move’s Wi-Fi roaming strategy, which is to establish a comprehensive global network of relationships with ISPs, mobile operators and other Wi-Fi providers. The strategy includes pursuing mobile operators that are members of the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) as well as non-WBA members. The WBA is comprised of major wireless broadband operators throughout the Asia Pacific region, Europe and the United States, offering a combined total of more than 60,168 Wi-Fi hotspots.
At the launch of the service, True Move will initially offer only Wi-Fi Roaming-In and will expand Wi-Fi Roaming-Out services in the near future. Under these partnerships, roamers can use their own account name and password when accessing a True Move Wi-Fi hotspot. True Move plans to establish many additional roaming partnerships during 2007 and negotiations are underway with many other WBA and non-WBA members.
