Mahanakorn University of Technology (MUT) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Huawei-3Com (H3C) that will incorporate H3C Network Academy into the academic curriculum starting this school year while spending some six million Baht in equipment with the aim of promoting the highest standard in network technology and training more highly qualified network technicians in the process.
Using H3C Network Academy in its Computer Engineering Department, Assistant Proferssor Dr. Phaophak Sirisuk, Head of Computer Engineering Department noted the increasing importance of computer networking and the spiraling in the demand of qualified technicians and the necessity in maintaining network technology development.
“We think that the knowledge will be more effective if students learn from the expert and have chance to practice in real situation with the equipment such as Switch, Router, Firewall which are used in market,” said Dr. Phaophak.
MUT, one of the most rapidly growing universities in Thailand, already has world-class laboratories and provide students ready access to state-of-the-art equipment and excellent facilities ensuring top academic and professional. Its computerised library contains over 100,000 books as well as journals, audio-visual media, microfilms and DVD-ROMs.
Further reinforcing these facilities, MUT’s Computer of Engineering Department has sought the support of H3C expressing belief that the networking equipment of H3C is used and well-known in market and enterprises.
“We have spent some six million Baht to build an operation room alone for this program. However, we think that H3C’s equipment would also be more widely used in the future so we decide to use H3C units in our networking workshop room,” said Dr. Phaophak.
Aiming to produce some 200 good quality computer engineers a year, H3C market is expected to become bigger in the near future, requiring more professionals who already have a good experience with H3C equipment. H3C rolled out the educational plan of Huawei-3Com Network Academy based on its leading network technologies and product portfolios at the end of 2002 by pursuing the philosophy “being realistic and specialized, making use of what have been taught”, and commits to training network technical professionals and promoting network technology in Thailand and other countries.
Dr. Phaophak said, “The Computer Engineering Department will also receive support from H3C in various other ways such as in giving discounts for the equipment to be used in the academy. MUT’s professors will work with engineers from H3C to develop the program that will be updated all the time. We will send students for internship at H3C during the summer semester. Students who pass H3C Network Academy will be recommended to clients who need professional network engineers by H3C.”
MUT will officially start H3C Network Academy in the first semester of 2007 in May. The course will be taught to third year students in summer semester before the official opening. Students who enroll for Computer Network course can have H3C Network Academy without additional tuition and gain “Certificate of H3C Attendance”. Those who would earn good scores will be given a chance to go for HCNA and HCNE Certificate test for free.
The university has also adjusted the content of H3C Network Academy to suit the study time in each semester. It offers it 15 times per semester in three hours for each period. Each student will have a chance to practice with one computer and one set of networking equipment.
