Bangkok--9 Apr--BBL
A survey of Bangkok Bank’s iBanking customers shows that usage is growing fast. Both the number and value of transactions and have more than doubled over the past two years.
Already, even through most iBanking customers have only been using the service for less than two years, it has become one of their favorite channels for doing transactions.
In answer to the question, “What channels do you use to perform banking transactions?” the top three channels were: ATMs, internet banking and the branch, in that order.
More than 6000 people participated in the online survey of internet users which was conducted by Bangkok Bank over a 12-day period between November and December last year.
Respondents reported a high level of satisfaction with internet banking and said they like to do their banking over the internet because it’s convenient, there’s no annual fee and it’s easier than going to a branch. Most use internet banking several times a month, mainly for checking accounts, transfers and bill payments.
The survey results indicate that even though internet banking is still in its infancy in Thailand, those that do use it, love it, said Valaiporn Niramai, the head of Bangkok Bank’s Bualuang iBanking service.
“Internet banking is quick and convenient and the fees are often lower than other channels. Our customers are enthusiastic adopters of new technology and they are asking us to extend our range of services and link them in with other technology channels such as ATMs and mobile phones.”
Mrs. Valaiporn says the bank regularly surveys its internet banking users, and as a result of customer demand it continually introduces new services.
For example most internet banking customers also have credit cards so the bank has developed a convenient online service for customers to check on credit card reward points and redeem them. The bank is also piloting a new internet banking service targeted at SME customers.
In other findings of the on-line survey, more men than women use Bangkok Bank’s internet banking service. The typical user is aged between 20 and 39, works in the private sector, has a bachelor’s degree and is earning between Baht 20,000 and 50,000 per month.
Bangkok Bank is running a promotion to attract more people to use the service with free gifts and free transactions for those who log on and use the service between now and the end of March.
