Goodyear’s efforts to promote safety recognized by general public across Asia according to TNS survey
Goodyear Tires ranks the highest among tire manufacturers in Asia and the Americas in the public’s perception of CSR goodwill according to a Corporate Social Responsibility Study carried out by TNS in 2006. The study was conducted simultaneously across 18 major automotive markets on four continents.
The annual study revealed that corporations that rate highly on safety and environment are the companies generally perceived as most trustworthy. Goodyear received top marks for manufacturing safe products and promoting road safety.
Pierre E. Cohade, President of the Asia Pacific Region for Goodyear, said, “We are thrilled that the work of Goodyear associates is being recognized by this accolade from consumers around the world. The TNS study results are clear recognition that Goodyear is meeting its goal to promote safety for drivers, the environment and in our workplace.”
1,000 respondents taken from the general public in each country evaluated companies based on social, corporate, environmental, and philanthropic issues.
“Goodyear works to be a socially responsible company in all areas. Through our Highway Heroes Program being conducted in Australia and the Philippines, we recognize people that go the extra mile to help other motorists on the road. We seek responsible ways to deal with used tires to minimize environmental impact such as enhancing playgrounds in Taiwan and reinforcing racetracks in the Philippines. Internally, our ‘No One Gets Hurt’ campaign improves systems and processes towards a safer working environment,” said Cohade.
In addition to conducting CSR programs to promote safety, Goodyear is an active proponent in educating motorists on tire safety and maintenance. At the onset of peak travel seasons, Goodyear conducts tire audits in strategic locations like petrol stations to assess the health of each tire and provide helpful tire tips to motorists. And through its branded retail network, Goodyear runs a car care program for women drivers to empower them with basic auto maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
In recent calamities, Goodyear was also proactive in helping flood victims with relief efforts in inundated areas in Malaysia and Indonesia as well as typhoon-ravaged areas in the Philippines.
Charoen Chaipetcharatn, Marketing Director, Goodyear (Thailand) Public Company Limited, said that Goodyear has ongoing commitments to conduct social responsibility programs in the Thailand market. At the onset of peak travel seasons in the upcoming Songkran Festival, for instance, Goodyear will join forces with the Department of Land Transport to conduct tire audits and provide helpful tire tips to motorists. Several social welfare activities will also be organized later this year.
Similar to its global network, the company also conducts the ‘No One Gets Hurt’ campaign for its employees in order to improve systems and processes towards a safer working environment, said Chaipetcharatn.
