Jetstar will seek to raise $3 million over three years for World Vision Australia as part of an innovative philanthropic partnership.
The partnership will support World Vision community based projects in key Jetstar international destinations such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, as well as Domestic projects in Australia.
Representing the most significant community partnership in the history of the value based airline, funds raised from StarKids will support specific projects run by World Vision that positively impact the lives of families living in poverty and give children a brighter future.
World Vision Chief Executive Tim Costello and Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce jointly launched StarKids in Melbourne.
This innovative program brings together the airline, its 1600 strong staff and an annual customer base of at least 8 million passengers to raise awareness and help transform the lives of vulnerable children.
The launch of StarKids will support World Vision Australia in its work via: Inflight donations by Jetstar customers: By later this year all Jetstar domestic and international services, currently numbering up to 165 per day, will offer Jetstar passengers during their flight the opportunity to make a donation to StarKids. Donation envelopes will be available in the aircraft seat pockets.
Voluntary donations by Jetstar passengers at booking: By the end of 2007, Jetstar will leverage all its distribution channels, including Jetstar.com, to facilitate donations to World Vision by our customers in a seamless way.
Jetstar staff engagement: Jetstar’s 1600 strong staff will have the opportunity to support StarKids via a proactively marketed Work Place Giving program.
The airline’s fast growing Jetstar magazine, currently accessible to around 700,000 passengers per month, will also publish a two page feature on World Vision’s work and will actively promote StarKids in future monthly editions.
Jetstar CEO Alan Joyce said the principal focus of the StarKids program is children and providing hope for their future would resonate with a high proportion of Jetstar’s existing passenger base — that of young families.
“World Vision is the most trusted and respected international development agency in Australia and this first time partnership presents our airline and our staff with a wonderful opportunity to directly to contribute to the betterment of many people’s lives,” Mr Joyce said.
“There is great correlation with the millions who fly Jetstar each year and the hundreds of thousands of Australians who proactively support World Vision by either directly sponsoring children or making existing contributions to their aid programs.
“Some of the international destinations Jetstar now serves provide perhaps the most wonderful tourism and holiday experiences in the world today. But they also harbour a need to support community and social programs to help their people lift their economies and social infrastructure.
“Jetstar is a growing and passionate company, filled with community minded individuals and I know many of them will throw their support behind the many opportunities this partnership will present.”
World Vision Chief Executive Tim Costello said:
“The partnership between World Vision and Jetstar is a great achievement for both parties. It is a great opportunity for World Vision to showcase our programs around the world to those who are interested in learning about the world we live in.
“This partnership shows that Jetstar is making a strong public commitment to partner with World Vision Australia to strengthen local communities through social investment and philanthropy.
“StarKids is giving staff and customers alike the opportunity to contribute towards the sustainability of the communities in many of the destinations that World Vision works and Jetstar fly.”
Jetstar.com and Worldvision.com.au will soon feature a special webpage detailing the StarKids program.
