PTT Chemical continues to extensively bolster Thailand’s upstream petrochemical industry with the inauguration of three new plants to produce ethane cracker, low density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE).
Mr. Prasert Bunsumpun, President of PTT Public Company Limited said, “The groundbreaking for the three new plants today sets another major milestone in Thailand’s petrochemical industry. These projects will enable efficient utilization of natural gas, which aligns with the government’s resource optimization policy. The new production line of LDPE and LLDPE will serve as a good supply to both domestic and other foreign markets in the region and generate more income to Thailand. We also believe that this investment will promote the country’s social and economical development.”
Commenting on this, Mr. Aditheb Bisalbutr, President of PTT Chemical Plc., said, “The construction of these new plants is our major step in encompassing both upstream and downstream industry while strengthening our position as fully-integrated petrochemical manufacturer. Apart from tapping the growing demand of domestic chemical and petrochemical manufacturers, the produce from the three plants will also help lower risks related to price fluctuation of supply in the market. In the long term, Thailand’s petrochemical industry will be stronger, more sustainable and more well-prepared to prosper in the entire cycle of the industry.”
The three plants, established to produce ethane cracker, low density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) respectively, are operated by PTT Polyethylene Co., Ltd., a 100%-owned subsidiary of PTT Chemical. Located in Padaeng Industrial Estate, Map Ta Phut sub-district, Muang district, Rayong, the plants are scheduled to complete and ready for operation in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Mr. Khubbhol Suksupha, President of PTT Polyethylene Co., Ltd. revealed that the new Ethane Cracker Plant, when finished, will be the country’s largest olefins factory, capable of producing one million tonnes of ethylene and 30,000 tonnes of propylene annually. The plant will obtain approximately 1,350,000 tonnes of ethane supply annually from PTT’s gas separation plant — Unit 6.
Subsequently, the Ethane Cracker Plant will supply ethylene to LDPE and LLDPE Plants which can produce 300,000 tonnes of LDPE and 400,000 tonnes of LLDPE annually. The offset ethylene supply will be distributed to other domestic plastic resin manufacturers and exported to foreign markets.
