Bangkok--14 Jun--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is primed for the launch of Thailand’s first equity ETF (exchange-traded fund) in Q3/2007, with support systems and work processes now ready. In preparation for the launch, SET will host a series of 15 seminars to educate the public, investors and marketing representatives, and conduct local and overseas road shows. The initial seminar, “First Step to Equity ETF Investment”, will be on June 15, 2007 at Prof. Sangvian Indaravijaya Auditorium, SET Building, Bangkok. SET and One Asset Management, which was approved in February 2007 to establish and manage the ETF, have worked together to ensure the product’s smooth introduction. Preparations have included system development and testing, trading regulation amendments (concerning listing, trading, and clearing and settlement), and market education, SET President Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai said. “The ETF project has come along well. Trading regulations have been amended, and we will have participating dealers, market-makers, and short-selling, as in other international markets. “Prior to the launch, there will be an overall system test involving SET, member companies and the Thailand Securities Depository,” Ms. Patareeya said. Thailand Securities Institute (TSI) will be responsible for the educational program which, in addition to the seminars, includes six monthly training sessions for marketing representatives starting in July, six sessions for retail and institutional investors, and two sessions for the press. To increase the pool of educators, TSI will conduct a ‘Train the Trainer: ETF” program. The seminars cover areas such as introduction to ETF, reasons to invest in them, their growth and structure, who can invest in the product, and tips and handy hints for investment. The speakers are Dr. Somjin Sornpaisarn, CFA, Managing Director of One Asset Management; Ms. Suvapa Jreanying, Managing Director of Thanachart Securities PCL; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kulpatra Sirodom from the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Thammasat University.
