Ogilvy & Mather Advertising came home from Cannes with pocket full of Gold Lions for the third consecutive years. Ogilvy & Mather Thailand celebrated two Gold Lions while its global network made a history with unprecedented double Grand Prix from Dove advertisement.
Mrs. Punnee Chaiyakul, Vice Chairman of Ogilvy & Mather Thailand and Managing Director of Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, said, “This is the third consecutive year that Ogilvy and Mather Thailand won Gold Lions from the world’s most recognized advertising festivals. This is our pride and the true proof of our excellence in creating and delivering Great Work that Works.”
The two Gold Lions were awarded to Ogilvy & Mather Thailand’s outstanding advertisement, “Tree”, created for WWF Thailand, a non-profit organization working on environmental conservation. The advertisement won Gold Lions in Press — Public Awareness, and Outdoor — Public Awareness categories.
The advertisement was created to support the Forests for Life, a WWF Thailand’s campaign for sustainable forest conservation. The advertisement shows a vast area where all big trees were already cut down, leaving only hundreds of stumps. Surprisingly, one big tree remains intact. When the audience looks closely, they will see a group of woodcutters sitting, lying and relaxing under the shade of that last tree. This sarcastically demonstrates that people destroy forests everyday without realizing that forests are their lives.
Ogilvy & Mather Thailand has been serving WWF Thailand for a long time for several campaigns, including Global Warming, Anti-illegal Animals Trading and Conserving Endangered Dolphins in the Inner Gulf of Thailand.
Ogilvy & Mather Thailand’s reputation at Cannes has been well recognized for years. In 2005, the company won a Gold Lion for the advertisement called “Axe” created for the National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department, and a Bronze Lion from the advertisement titled “Hide” created for WWF Thailand. Last year, the company won four. The agency grabbed a Gold Lion in press category, for Kodak SD card, one Silver Lion in poster and outdoor category also for Kodak SD card, and two Bronze Lions for Ionique fertilizer and Inova Outdoor Flashlight. Two TV commercials — Thai
Life Insurance and Sponsor, and one press advertisement, for Stanley, were shortlisted at Cannes 2006.
Mrs. Chaiyakul added that this year is a remarkable year for the Ogilvy global network. The group made a new history as the first double Grand Prixin the 54-year history of the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival were awarded to Ogilvy for Dove “Evolution”. The network won altogether 29 Lions with excellent showing in Press, Outdoor, Cyber and
Direct categories.
