Bangkok--13 Nov--Maxima Consultants The latest event to pay tribute to His Majesty the King, our ‘guiding light and inspiration’ was the launching party for ‘Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom’, a photographic publication to mark the 80th birthday of His Majesty the King at the First Annual Bangkok Art & Photography Event 2007 by ZEN which was graciously presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at ZEN. Hundreds of reverence people, publishers, photographers and photo lovers in yellow tone recently gathered at the Zen Event Gallery on ZEN’s 8th floor for the special event. As an organizing committee chairman and also one of Thai photographers for ‘Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom’, Mr.Surat Osathanugrah described the meaningful of the event, announced the dedicated persons and sponsorships and mentioned that ‘His Majesty the King is our guiding light and inspiration. This book is made to showcase the dramatic photo shots of his beautiful country to the eyes of the world. It was also the great historic occasion which Thailand was the venue to gather 55 world leading photographers during January this year.’ The 304-page, large format of 352mm x 280 mm, coffee-table book is a portrait of Thailand today. The books leads world readers on a photographic journey through the country, showing many aspects of the nation’s life - cultural, social, economic, religious and natural. It includes a series of short, vivid photo-essays by six of these star photographers on various themes including reverence for the King, the ongoing events in the south, Thai boxing, the harvesting of birds’ nests, the care and treatment of AIDS patients by a Catholic priest and the country’s colourful cabaret scene. For those who bought the ‘Thailand: 9 Days in the Kingdom’ at the party, they also got autograph, entirely in the handwriting of photographers who attended the opening event.
