Bangkok--16 Nov--Francom Asia The two award-winning wines are: - 2006 Pirom Khao Yai Reserve Tempranillo (Gold Medal). A well-structured wine, with garnet-red hue and flavors of red berry combined with sensuous notes of vanilla, cedar and soft spices. Partly aging in French oak vat for 12 months, it offers smoky oak characters with an elegant taste. - 2003 PB Khao Yai Reserve Shiraz (Silver Medal). A full-bodied wine, rich and ripe, with deep ruby-red hue and flavors of prune and plum combined with a touch of vanilla. Aged in oak vat and oak “barrique”, the wine displays distinctive hints of oak with a slightly spicy aftertaste. The AWC challenge takes place under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management of the Republic of Austria. The wines are tasted and judged in single cabins and anonymously only (blind tasting). Wines are rated according to the international 100-point system. 90 points and above earn a Gold Medal, 85 to 89.9 points receive a Silver Medal, and 80 to 84.9 points get a Seal of Approval.
