HSBC APPOINTS NEW CEO IN THAILAND

Bangkok--19 Nov--HSBC HSBC has appointed Willie Tham as Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Thailand, with immediate effect. He replaces Marcus Hurry, who has taken up a new position in the United Kingdom. Mr Tham will oversee HSBC’s growing operations in Thailand which encompass a comprehensive range of businesses, including corporate and institutional banking, global markets, securities services, trade finance, payment and cash management, and personal financial services. Mr Tham joined the HSBC Group in 1985 and has served in a wide range of prominent international positions across the Group over the past 22 years. As a member of the International Manager team, he has worked in a number of locations, including China, Hong Kong SAR, USA, Macau SAR, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and Qatar. Mr Tham has over two decades’ experience in corporate & consumer banking, trade finance, IT, banking operations, risk control and general management. In 2001, he became the Area Manager for Kuala Lumpur at HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad with overall responsibility for the Bank’s consumer and corporate banking business in the Kuala Lumpur region. He was appointed Chief Operating Officer of HSBC China in November 2004 before taking up his current role. Mr Tham was born in 1961 in Malaysia. He graduated with First Class Honours from Imperial College, London where he read Civil Engineering.
