Bangkok--20 Nov--Maxima Consultants To celebrate an auspicious occasion of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 80th birthday on 5 December 2007, Thaicom Foundation, a non-profit organization and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi will open an ‘Innovative Learning Institute’, the new creation of modern learning under constructionism theory wherein learners are actively constructing mental models and theories of the world around them. The official opening on Innovative Learning Institute will be graciously presided over by HRH Princess Ubolratana at the King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi on Friday, 30th November 2007 at 5:30 p.m. Ms.Yingluck Shinawatra, Director and Secretary of Thaicom Foundation mentioned that ‘Thaicom Foundation was established as a non profit organization for over 14 years and was proclaimed as a public charitable organization due to its major contribution to the education of the general public. The foundation has supported the education development for all levels, especially by using the Constructionism, a theory pioneered by Seymour Papert of MIT Media Lab. The Constructionism is child-centered education wherein children learn how to work in the real world, using appropriate technology, and by experimenting for themselves, developing their ability to listen and plan systematically, solve problems and work independently. So that children can grow up and actively making their way to the better living in the real world. The foundation supports many schools such as Darunsik Khalai School in Bangkok, San Kamphaeng School in Chiang Mai and Baan Samkha School in Chiang Rai. For this auspicious occasion, Thaicom Foundation contributed 240 million Baht to King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi for the new learning institute. The 14,500-square meter Innovative Learning Institute on 15 storey will be a-one-stop window through for all levels from kindergarten, elementary, secondary to university. To ensure that our next generation will be well-survive with good living within this globalization, the multi-disciplines theory will be offered to students in university level. Students experience the learning which they enable to select courses that they prefer without faculty restriction.’ Besides the official opening for the Innovative Learning Institute, there will be an academic seminar on ‘the importance of technology and education in a new world order’ topic by Professor Walter Bender, Senior Research Scientist; Dr.Paron Israsena and many lecturers.
