Bangkok--26 Nov--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation has given the Associate Professor Sugree Charoensook Award 2007 to Colonel Professor Choochart Pitaksakorn for his outstanding work in music development over 40 years. Prof. Choochart was selected by Ajarn Sugree Charoensook Foundation for one of six awards which honor individuals or groups that have made an outstanding contribution to society in education, urban social development, rural social development, music, sports or library development. “This tribute provides moral support for people who have dedicated themselves to society and encourages others to do more,” SET President and Foundation Secretary Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai said. Prof. Choochart received the unanimous endorsement of the Ajarn Sugree Charoensook Foundation committee because of his ongoing commitment and creativity in composition and musical education over four decades, Foundation Chairman Assoc. Prof. Sugree said. He has brought traditional Thai music to international attention by adapting it for piano. His contributions to music include the development of world-class artists in violin and viola. He is currently a director of Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor of C.U. Symphony Orchestra, lecturer with the Royal Thai Army Band and guest lecturer in viola and string ensemble at several institutions. To date, SET Foundation’s Social Recognition Project has honored people in five areas. In library development, the Foundation recognized Professor Khun Ying Manmas Chavalit. For urban social development, Mrs. Uthit Buddhasud Somjai received the award, while in rural development, the Inpang Community Network accepted the honor. In educational development, Mr. Wisit Wittayaworakan received the prize and recently Maj. Gen. Samrerng Chaiyong was honored for his sports development work.
