Bangkok--27 Nov--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) hosted 4th ASEAN Exchanges CEOs’ Meeting in Bangkok during November 25 — 26, 2007, involving top executives from six exchanges—Bursa Malaysia, The Hochiminh Stock Exchange, Jakarta Stock Exchange, Philippines Stock Exchange, SET and Singapore Exchange. The CEOs agreed that ASEAN exchanges must act jointly to strengthen the region’s competitiveness and raise its global profile. The ASEAN Exchanges are exploring ways to cooperate in support of ASEAN’s vision of having a closely-interlinked capital market by 2015. At this weekend’s meeting held in Bangkok, the Exchanges were presented with various possible models, bilateral or multilateral, for collaboration. It was agreed that further study would be required, and the Exchanges will be forming a linkage task force to undertake the study. “The ASEAN Exchanges CEOs are confident that a closer collaboration among markets from now on is a major step in strengthening ASEAN capital markets’ presence and enhancing the visibility of ASEAN as an asset class,” SET President Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai said.
