Bangkok--3 Dec--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), through Money Channel, will launch a documentary on Sufficiency Economy to honor His Majesty the King’s 80th birthday. Dr. Somkiat Onwimon will present the four-episode series on ModernNine, TV Money Channel on TrueVisions 80, beginning December 3. The program will explain to Thai and international audiences how this philosophy, initiated by His Majesty, can be adapted to a global capitalist economy. This series includes interviews with a number of prominent figures, including the Prime Minister, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, a Privy Councilor, the secretary-general of the Bureau of the Royal Household, local philosophers, academics and executives from listed companies, Family Know-how Co., Ltd.’s (the owner and manager of Money Channel) President Mr. Ratchapol Laovanitch said. The documentary has taken six months to produce. Working alongside the Money Channel team, Dr. Somkiat, a leading figure in Thai documentary-making, co-produced and co-wrote the program. The series points out that Sufficiency Economy philosophy complements, rather than conflicts, with globalization by supporting self-sustainability without rabid consumerism. Sufficiency, rationalization and security for individuals, families, organizations and nations deliver a balanced approach in today’s world,” Mr. Ratchapol added. It was his personal interest in the Sufficiency Economy paradigm, which the King first mentioned in 1974, which inspired Dr. Somkiat’s participation in the series. He regards His Majesty as one of the world’s great philosophers, elaborating how humans can live a contented life in a globalized world. He applauds His Majesty’s decision to trial this unique approach in Thailand. “Sufficiency Economy is akin to the Buddhist concept of moderation and other similar philosophical ideas. The documentary will explain this interconnection to the viewers,” Dr. Somkiat said. The program’s producers visited models that have adopted the philosophy, including the Mai Riang community in Nakorn Si Thammarat and the Siam Cement’s plant in Lampang, where the idea is applied in management. Sufficiency Economy will begin on ModernNine TV on December 3 and continue on December 11, 17 and 24, from 20:30 hours - 21:30 hours. It will also be aired on December 5, 12, 19 and 26, from 21:00 hours - 22:00 hours on Money Channel, TrueVisions 80, 30 local cable television stations across the country and Samart DTH and DTV.
