Bangkok--6 Dec--124 COMMUNICATIONS Tata Motors (Thailand) Limited (TMTL) plans to establish a strong presence in Thailand by investing over THB 1.3 billion into the pickup assembly line. Tata Motors (Thailand) Limited - a 70:30 joint venture between Tata Motors and Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant Co. Ltd. - has officially revealed its THB 1.3 billion investment in its facility which will roll out pickup trucks in March 2008. “The THB 1.3 billion investment fund would go mainly towards equipment for the assembly facility. The pickup truck being manufactured at this facility has been designed keeping the Thai customers in mind”, said Mr. Ajit Venkataraman, CEO of Tata Motors (Thailand) Limited. The facility will have a production capacity of 35,000 vehicles per year. TMTL will directly generate at least 500 jobs in Thailand. TMTL will source over 50% vehicle content from Thai suppliers. There are over 40 Thai suppliers who are partnering with TMTL. They now have the opportunity to become Tier 1 suppliers to Tata Motors India as well. In March 2008, TMTL will launch an entire range of pick-up trucks including single, stretch and double cab versions. It will have one of the more fuel efficient engines available in the market. TMTL will provide second generation common rail technology that would save fuel money while delivering high performance. TMTL will start with 20-25 3S outlets: sales, service and spare parts at the time of launch. TMTL is identifying channel partners who share its vision of bettering people’s lives, not just selling products. TMTL will leverage its presence in Thailand to address other ASEAN markets.
