Thailand to host World Allergy Congress 2007 during December 2-6

Bangkok--6 Dec--Connect PR The Allergy and Immunology Society of Thailand, together with World Allergy Organization (WAO), West-Pacific Allergy Organization and Asia Pacific Association of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (APAAACI), will jointly hold the World Allergy Congress 2007 for the first time in Thailand during December 2-6 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The 20th World Allergy Congress is aimed to educate Thai people on the allergies and the treatment and to show to the world the achievements of the vaccine produced by the Thai researchers for the treatment of the dust-mite allergy which is the most common cause of the allergic disease. The event will also declare December 4 as the World Allergy Day. Assoc. Prof. Suwat Benjapolpitak, Chaiman of The Scientific Committee of The Allergy and Immunology Society said that Thailand was honored to be the host of the World Allergy Congress 2007. He added that the international meeting is aimed at educating the Thai people on the important advances in allergy, new scientific achievements, new approaches to the diagnosis and the treatments of allergy. According to the World Health Organization, around 300 million people in the world have suffered from the allergies. The more alarming statistic is that the allergies have claimed 250,000 lives each year. In Thailand there are around 10 million people suffering from the allergies and it was found that in an average one out of two children show sign of allergy symptoms. The number of the patient is expected to further increase if the appropriate methods and treatment are not undertaken. The World Allergy Congress is held every two years. The previous event was held in Germany. The World Allergy Organization is an international umbrella organization, comprising 70 member countries, which will take turn to host the event. The five-day event will present the achievements and studies of the world famous scholars, scientists, and researchers. The highlights of the event in Thailand include the presentations of Thai vaccines for treating the allergy and food allergy and also the dust mite allergy. The immunotherapy and food allergy issue will be addressed in International Immunotherapy Symposium and International Food Allergy Symposium in this event. The event will also host the seminars, conferences, and workshops where experts from all fields will share ideas of the directions of scientific development and trends of allergy treatment and prevention. Around 3,500 delegates from around the world have already showed their intention to participate in the event. The Allergy World Congress will be held during December 2-6 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the opening ceremony on December 3. Exhibitions will also be held at the venue to celebrate His Majesty the King's 80th birthday.
