ข่าวทั่วไป Thursday December 6, 2007 17:05 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--6 Dec--Connect PR According to the World Allergy Congress 2007 (WAC2007) on December 5, 2007, the allergy patients will experience risk of having lower life quality and serious illness, if they fail to pay enough attention to their health conditions and take great care of themselves. Prof. Dr. Pakit Vichayanond, president of the Allergy and Immunology Society of Thailand said regarding the current allergy situation in the country, the accessibility of allergy knowledge sources has still been limited to the patients in the big cities, while those living in the rural area have hardly been able to reach the vital information and knowledge. As a result, people in the provincial area who have suffered from allergies, have lacked the right knowledge relating the malady and have been poorly informed of how to appropriately take care of their health and build up the immunity against the illness. The situation has partially contributed to the rise in number of the allergy affected people in Thailand. He added that allergies do not affect only the patients' health but also their ways of living. For an example, some allergy treatment doses will make the patients feel drowsy, which will affect their study or their daily works. Since no drug can completely cure the illness, the patients are required to have the indefinite medical treatments, of which one method is vaccination. Assoc. Prof. Suwat Benjapolpitak, Chairman of the Scientific Committee, the Allergy and Immunology Society of Thailand said that the environmental change has played a role in the surging number of the allergy patients. He added that the genetic and environmental factors have played key roles in the allergies and it is easier for the patients to deal with the second factor. They should avoid what prompt their allergic reactions in the first place. For example, they should avoid the dusty places. Importantly, they should bear in mind that they should not smoke and should avoid the smoke as it could trigger the vehement allergic reactions. They should go to see the doctors once they are in serious conditions. Usually, allergy is not life-threatening illness but it causes from slight to serious annoyance to the patients. However, the illness can be reduced and controlled, if the patients have the right medical treatments and always take good care of their health.
