Thai bourse announces basis for SET50 and SET100 Indices for H1/2008

ข่าวทั่วไป Friday December 14, 2007 14:21 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--14 Dec--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s Index Committee has selected the securities which will form the basis for calculating the SET50 and SET100 indices for H1/2008 (Jan. 1 — Jun. 30, 2008). There is one change in the SET50 index and nine in the SET100, Executive Director of SET Research Institute Dr. Kobsak Pootrakool said. Eligible firms must be among the top 200 securities having the highest daily average market capitalization values for the previous 12 months, and must have been listed for at least six months. A security’s eligibility for inclusion depends on its trading value on the main board compared to the market average from December 1, 2006 to November 30, 2007. Other eligibility criteria include having a free-float of no less than 20%, not being subject to delisting, and not being, or expected to be, suspended for a lengthy period. Additionally, from December 14, 2007 onwards, SET’s Index Committee will include a merger between a SET50 (or SET100) firm with another firm in its consideration to ensure that the SET50 and SET100 lists accurately reflect market movements. Calculations allow for two types of merger: 1) A merger to become a new entity and listed: If the new entity’s free-float meets the requirement of no less than 20%, it’s securities will be included in the SET50 (or SET100) index calculation and, once the new entity’s securities start trading, will replace the merged securities. 2) A merger into one existing entity: If, after the merger, that existing entity’s free-float meets the requirement of no less than 20%, it’s securities will still be included in the SET50 (or SET100) index calculation. Where a merger has resulted in an insufficient number of SET50 (or SET100) securities, a replacement will be selected to complete the relevant list. The Exchange will announce the date of any constituent adjustments before they come into effect. Normally, the SET50 index will be calculated using the top 50 eligible securities and the SET100 using the top 100. Should a company lose its eligibility, a replacement will be selected from the next five securities immediately following those on the index list.
