Bangkok--28 Dec--SET In 2008, Thailand Securities Depository Co., Ltd. (TSD) will become increasingly involved in supporting Thai children, as part of the Thai capital market’s corporate responsibility to give back to society. Together with The Stock Exchange of Thailand’s (SET) Corporate Social Responsibility Institute (CSRI), the depository will continue to organize activities for underprivileged children and support charitable groups, TSD Chief Executive Officer Ms. Sopawadee Lertmanaschai said. “TSD’s involvement in these activities has been voluntary, involving employees forming small groups to focus on helping the underprivileged through programs which are self-initiated and thus ensure long-term involvement and commitment. Children and the youth deserve a good quality of life, as they are the future foundation of the country. Thailand’s sustainable growth and development depends on this foundation. It also promoted environmental issues and conservation among its employees, as part of a global effort to deal with the greenhouse-effect,” Ms. Sopawadee said. In 2007, TSD’s social involvement with children and youth included educational promotion programs, such as teaching kids how to spend prudently and out-of-school learning activities, support for mentally- and physically-abused orphans in Kanchanaburi Province, and assistance for HIV-infected orphans in Lopburi Province and Bangkok’s Klongtoey community. Specific activities included the charity concert, TSD: Share the Love with Pun and Tor, the Savings-promotion Hand Puppet Project and the study tour Wider World with TSD. In addition, the depository supported a range of charities, such as Thai Red Cross Society and Thailand Association of the Blind, through the TSD’s organ donation project and its Share with the Blind Project. “Social development should part of every organization’s mission. Even a number of small contributions, when added together, become a significant force for social change. It is commendable that the Thai capital market has established CSRI to promote social responsibility and development among the private sector,” Ms. Sopawadee concluded.
