Bangkok--8 Jan--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will provide full IT services to the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET), one of a series of collaborative steps aiming to improve the efficiency of the Thai capital market, and make it more integrated and attractive to domestic and foreign investors. Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai, SET president, signed today (January 8), a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mr. Nitus Patrayotin, executive vice president and acting president of the Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET) that engages SET to provide full and comprehensive IT support to AFET throughout 2008. “This is one of SET’s continuing joint efforts with AFET to support AFET’s development of trading, clearing and settlement, and supporting systems,” said Ms. Patareeya. “This will help AFET achieve its objective of becoming a leading regional futures exchange, and enhance the Thai market’s potential and competitiveness, making it more attractive to local and foreign investors.” Mr. Nitus noted that this latest agreement demonstrates AFET and SET’s determination to develop the Thai capital market. “We appreciate SET providing full-scale IT services to AFET,” he said. “The systems involved, especially those related to trading, are essential for investors’ confidence and thus important to the overall strengthening of the Thai capital market.” SET and AFET have cooperated continuously since 2003, a year prior to AFET’s launch. Besides IT, future collaboration will involve investor education and information sharing.
