SriLankan Airlines Limited has recently announced the appointment of Mr. Amitabh Anthonypillai as their new Country Manager for Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Based in Bangkok, Mr. Anothypillai replaces Mr. Hussain Jayah who moved to another senior managerial position at the airline’s Head Office in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
A Graduate in commerce from the University of Delhi, prior to his new appointment, Mr. Anothypillai has been involved as a Senior Commercial Analyst overlooking the Far East & Asia Pacific region for SriLankan Airlines based in Colombo. At 31 years of age, Mr. Anthonypillai’s appointment makes him the youngest Country Manager named by the airline. His extensive experience in Customer Affairs & Service Monitoring as well as sales & marketing will go on to enhance the airline’s overall operations and brand image in the region.
Sri Lanka’s National Carrier now flies to 54 destinations in 28 countries.
SriLankan Airlines is the first foreign airline to operate one hundred flights per week to 11 major cities in India. From Colombo, SriLankan also provides one-stop rapid connections to Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the Far East. These include 12 flights per week to London, as well as services to Paris and Frankfurt. From Bangkok, SriLankan flies a non-stop daily service to Colombo; 3 direct flights a week to Hong Kong and Beijing.
SriLankan is also the largest carrier into the Maldives, which incidentally was voted in the Ultratravel 100 as the Best Worldwide Destination. SriLankan ’s modern fleet consists of Airbus A340, A330 and A320 aircraft.
SriLankan Airlines has in recent years won such prestigious titles as World’s Best Airline in a survey of Economy Class passengers, World’s Friendliest Cabin Staff, first runner-up for World’s Best Cabin Staff, Best Overall Inflight Entertainment (small fleet), World’s Most Efficient Operator of Airbus A330s (small fleet), Best Airline in Central Asia for four consecutive years, and Best Airline in South Asia three times.
