PTT — Qatargas signed Heads of Agreement on LNG

Bangkok--6 Feb--PTT Qatargas Operating Company Limited and Thailand’s PTT Public Company Limited have signed a long term one-million tones per annum of liquefied natural gas (LNG) Heads of Agreement. Under the heads of agreement, LNG will be supplied into PTT LNG Receiving Terminal when it becomes operational. The terminal is expected to be operational in 2011 and will be capable of receiving the cargoes using the new QFlex and Q-Max class of vessels. The initial capacity of PTTLNG receiving terminal is five million tonnes per annum with expansion capability up to ten million tonnes per annum in later years. The received LNG is expected to be supplied by PTT mainly to the power and transportation sectors as well as the industrial users. PTT has also imported natural gas from its neighboring country for the same purpose. Mr. Faisal M. Al Suwaidi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qatargas said “We are pleased with this exciting market development. Thailand represents a new market for the LNG industry and Qatari LNG and further demonstrates our commitment to diversity of markets for our energy. We have been in contact with PTT for some time and are pleased that we have been able to conclude this milestone agreement. ” Mr. Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith, Chief Operating Officer, Upstream Petroleum and Gas Business Group of PTT said “We are pleased with this achievement. Qatar is the biggest LNG producer and the LNG import demonstrates our commitment in securing energy for Thailand and also diversity sources of natural gas supplies. We have been in discussion with Qatargas for sometime and are pleased to share this significant development in our cooperation with Qatargas.”
