Bangkok--20 Feb--AIS AIS introduces the energy-saving network under the concept “Green Network” in participation of the global warming reduction campaign by mixing a variety of selected methods in its network operations and volunteering to expand network to 38 Royal Project locations throughout the north for people’s convenience. Mr. Wichian Mektrakarn, President of Advanced Info Service Plc. or AIS, disclosed “In addition to continual improvement, coverage expansion, service reinforcement, quality development and application enhancement for unlimited utilization in all service areas, the development of AIS network incorporates the global warming reduction. In the corporate work processes, therefore, AIS will recognize the continuing integration of global warming reduction efforts, especially in the network development.” “Benefits may have flip side, just like the technologies on which we are capitalizing. For example, the electricity generation process emits pollution. As a result, AIS is interested in the study of integrating the use of clean energy or substitute energy and the decrease of unnecessary energy consumption. In general we are gearing towards global warming reduction campaign.” Mr. Weerawat Kiattipongthaworn, Executive Vice President — Network Operations, unveiled “In the engineering work process, we will select appropriate energy saving applications while maintaining service efficiencies. At present, the measures we have implemented in network development consist of; 1. Solar Energy: Using solar cell to transform solar energy to electrical current to power the communication device in Base Stations. So far, we have implemented such measure for 11 Base Stations with 4 more to come this year. 2. Wind Energy: Installing horizontal air turbine to generate power connecting to the gridline of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, starting in Samutsongkram with continual expansion. 3. Biodiesel Energy: Initiating the use of biodiesel energy to fuel the Generator in Base Stations. 4. Saving Energy — Mobile Switching Center : Installing Insulated Wall to keep constant temperature for longer period without the use of large air conditioning. The air conditioning is replaced with high quality fan which can ventilate the heat and maintain the operations of network device at equivalent quality. The use of measures mentioned above, however, will be selected to properly suit diverse terrains. In the Khun Pae Royal Project located in Amphoe Jomthong with mountainous area and no access to electricity, for example, AIS employs solar cell technology to power the Base Station. For the past 1 year, this network has well served the need of people and project members in this area. AIS wins the trust from the Royal Project Foundation to expand mobile phone network in 38 sites of Royal Project throughout the north mostly featuring the crooked roads on mountaintop. Farmers, hill tribes and project staff greatly benefit from easy communication supporting the efficient distribution of project products. Today AIS operates 35 Base Stations in the Royal Projects. Wichian concluded “The global warming reduction campaign is the role of every human on earth. The AIS will seriously and continually cooperate in order to conserve the environments for our offspring to live the sustainable and happy lives.
