Bangkok--3 Mar--Philips Electronics Philips debuts the latest technology and launches a full-scale of lighting innovations, ready to brighten up Thailand’s lighting market in 2008 to maintain its Number One position for the 56th consecutive year. Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd’s Lighting Sector organizes the first Philips Big Blue Day 2008 to showcase an army of the lighting products as well as to exhibit Energy Efficient Lighting Solutions aiming to demonstrate the potential of light beyond its illuminating quality. Philips has determined to serve the demand for efficient energy management as well as to combat the global warming. Philips is confident that it would be able to defend its championship to become the leader of the lighting market in Thailand in 2008 or for 56 years in a row. Mr. Prakorn Makjumroen, Chairman and CEO of Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd, said that Philips, the world’s leader in lighting market including Thailand’s, organizes its first Philips Big Blue Day 2008 to launch new products and lighting solutions that Philips will introduce to the Thai market this year. Product display will be categorized into five groups according to the applications, namely, home, office buildings, shop and department stores, industrial and outdoor. With expectation of more than 1,000 attendees to join Philips Big Blue Day organized between February 27-29, 2008 at Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport, the exhibition is to create an understanding of the benefits from the proper selection of lighting products and equipments in different applications. The targeted attendees include Philips distributors for general consumers and professional customers nationwide, lighting designers, electrical engineers, architectures, contractors and the relevant public and private agencies. “Philips is the first and only lighting company that launches the new products by showing the applications of lighting products and equipment as the total lighting solutions for both the general household customers and its projects’ customers by focusing on two concepts. The appropriate selection of lighting products and equipment can help save the energy consumption and combat global warming. Furthermore, lighting is regarded as scene setting as it can change the mood such as creating trendy, warm, easy-going, friendly, romantic or joyful vibes. At the same time, the new lighting products can help save the energy bills so that the users can effectively manage their costs and maximize the business benefits.” Philips showcases the Energy Efficient Lighting Solution as part of the “Sense and Simplicity” brand promise to deliver products and solutions that are designed around you, easy to experience and advanced. The application presentations are divided into five zones. Home: Philips realizes the growing demand of the new generation which requires products and solutions that save the energy consumption and create the mood in the house. Philips therefore presents the new series of Tornado energy-saver, which uses 80 per cent less energy but generates brighter light than normal compact fluorescent bulbs by 20 per cent. Tornado light bulb comes with beautiful designs with the twister-shape like a tornado, a 40 percent smaller than Essential energy saving bulb, so that it would be suitable for various locations in the house. “EasyForLife”, the new energy-saving lighting set, is designed by perfectly combining the strengths of lighting fixtures, new T5 fluorescent lamps and the electronic equipment. EasyForLife can save as much as 25 per cent of electricity. It is easy to be installed as it is ready to use after connected with electric wire. Besides, EasyForLife’s smaller and slimmer design contributes to pleasant interior decorations. Ecotone High Switch energy-saving light bulb not only saves as much as 80 per cent of energy but also lasts longer for 10,000 hours. One of the Ecotone HS’s highlights is its ability to be switched on and off for more than 15,000 times, making it appropriate for the area where the light is frequently switched on and off such as the bathrooms. Philips also realizes the fact that light has more potential than just to illuminate. Light can change the mood in the house to be more cozy and romantic. Therefore, Philips Imageo Candle is premiered with LED technology which can make the light blinks like candle light. Office Building: Philips launches the new slim T5 fluorescent lamps which, when used with proper electronic ballast and lighting control system, can save energy up to 61 percent, compared to standard fluorescent lamp system. Each T5 fluorescent lamp emits less carbon dioxide by 77 kilograms a year. T5 fluorescent lamp is designed to be slimmer with only 16 millimeter-diameter which is 10 millimeter smaller than standard fluorescent lamps. Therefore, light can be more precisely distributed and beamed to the designated area. When used with the fixtures designed to match T5 fluorescent lamps, the systems could be very compact which would easily blend with any interior design. Philips steps ahead by introducing the automatic dimmer system for T5 fluorescent lamps. The system will measure the amount of light from the sun that shines into the building. If the amount of light is enough, this system will automatically reduce the light energy to maintain the required amount of light and can help save the electricity. Department Stores and Shops: Philips introduces CDM lamps or the ceramic discharge metal halide which can produce precise continuous bands of colors. It is the innovation with the excellent quality of light, with precision and UV block technology. Therefore, the color of products will not fade under the light. The CDM lamps help create the mood of the shops, making them more distinctive and colorful and saving more electricity when compared to conventional halogen lamps. CDM lamps are more efficient than halogen lamps by more than 6 times and lasting 4 to 5 times longer. CDM has higher intensity of light compared to smaller lamps. Therefore, this light source is suitable when it is required to concentrate the light or to be used in a high-ceiling room. It saves the running and maintenance costs because of energy saving and longer life characteristics. CDM generates less heat than halogen lamps, resulting in less air-conditioning bills and making the users feel more comfortable to use the service. Moreover, Philips introduces new set of lighting fixtures for general use or specific purposes of the lighting application such as Magneos and Fugato fixtures. Industry: Philips presents CrestbayTM with state-of-the-art Swing-2-BrightTM technology. CrestbayTM is a high-bay fixture designed for use in the spacious building and high ceiling from 6 meter upwards. CrestbayTM has efficiency of light up to 80 per cent. Therefore, less number of lighting fixtures in service is required and it also helps reduce the eye-strain. The light beam can be adjusted to ensure that the building will be sufficiently and appropriately illuminated. Swing-2-BrightTM innovation is an exclusive patent of Philips. The innovation makes it easy for users to maintain, through only a couple of steps without any equipment. Therefore, it is convenient to be used and safe. The replacement can be done by simply opening up the lighting fixtures from the top of the reflector. The fixture could very well be used with HPI-BU Daylight lamp, the new metal halide lamp recommended by Philips. HPI-BU Daylight lamp generates whiter light. It has 20,000 hours lifetime, a 50 percent longer life than other metal halide lamps. The other product introduced by Philips is EB-Primalume electronic ballast, which can save as much as 30 per cent of energy when used with standard fluorescent lamps and new T5-fluorescent lamps. It is developed from warmstart technology platform that can extend the life of the lamp by 30 per cent. Outdoor consists of street lights and city beautification. As for street lights, Philips introduces Iridium with high efficiency. Therefore, it can help reduce the number of lighting fixtures and lamps per street, translating into the cut of electricity bills. It is also easy for maintenance because the lighting fixture is designed to be opened up from the top, making it more convenient for the technicians, who normally have to open up the fixtures from the bottom, which is not convenient because they have to look up while fixing the lamps. Moreover, there is also an innovation; BSD Step-Dimming, electromagnetic ballast with dimmer for high pressure sodium lamp. BSD Step-Dimming can automatically adjust the brightness of the light by a timer. For instance, after midnight when the traffic is less congested and it is not necessary to use 100-per-cent bright light, the brightness of the street light can be adjusted, leading to a 40 percent energy saving. The use of this energy saver is safer than to alternate light switch-off because it can cause the eye strain which can possibly lead to accident. Moreover, to decorate the urban setting, Philips introduces new technology LED or SSL (Solid State Lighting) alternatives such as LED Strip II technology and DynaFlood suitable for illuminating the buildings in the same way as floodlight. To light up the monuments, small statures or signs, Projector LED technology could be applied. LED lamps reflect Philips’ commitment to constantly developing the technology because LED has higher lifespan at an average of 50,000 hours (if the lamp is switched on for 6 hours a day consecutively, it will last for more than 20 years) than normal lamps. Therefore, it is not necessary to frequently look after and replace the lamps, reducing the lamp maintenance and replacement costs. It is mercury-free and thus environmentally-friendly. It uses low-voltage system, and thus is safer. LED lamp is small and light-weighted. Therefore, it reduces the design and installation constraints. Philips also showcases a groundbreaking concept based on Philips Lumalive technology. By integrating multicolor LEDs (light-emitting diodes) into textile objects Philips Lumalive transforms them into communication platforms, while their textile look & feel retains Mr. Prakorn said, in 2008, Lighting Division has set the marketing budget worth Bt200 million to conduct the marketing campaign for general customers and the professional customers to achieve two-digit growth and enable Philips to secure its leadership in the lighting market in Thailand for the 56th consecutive year. As for the general customers, Philips will concentrate both above-the-line and below-the-line activities at the sales locations aiming to create understanding the benefits of the energy saving efforts. Regarding the professional customers, Philips will continue to organize the seminar to promote knowledge and understanding of the appropriate selection of lighting products and solution for different purposes such as household use, office building, department stores, industrial use and outdoor lighting. In addition, the company also provides lighting consultants to advise about suitable lighting design and the selection lighting equipment for specific applications to respond to the needs of business organizations to ensure the effective energy management and cost management. Mr. Prakorn said that, “Philips, as the world leader in lighting, is confident to present total energy efficient lighting solution which can respond to the need of all groups of consumers to enable them to maximize the use of lighting equipment effectively. It can save the energy, save the electricity bills and contributes to more business profits. It also supports the global push for the environment conservation and solving the global warming. It will enable Philips to achieve the targeted sales in 2008.” Public Relations Department : 02-614-3333 ext 3486, 3627 Ms. Naranart Phuangkanok Sr. Public Relations Officer Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd., 1768 26-28th floor, Thai Summit Tower New Phetburi Road, Kwang Bangkapi, Khet Huaykwang, Bangkok 10320, Thailand Tel: (662) 614 3333 ext 3486 Fax: (662) 614 3488 e-mail: [email protected]
