Philips, 7-Eleven, PEA and MEA team up to launch “Saving Energy, Saving the World” project. To increase energy efficient management and combat global warming

Bangkok--25 Apr--Philips Electronics Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd., CP All Public Company Limited, Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), join force to unveil the program called “Saving Energy, Saving the World” to encourage Thai consumers to switch to energy saving bulb to save energy, reduce the electricity bill and combat global warming by offering the Philips Compact Fluorescent Lamp, Essential model 8 watt and 14 watt, at 75 Baht, selling in 4,300 stores of 7-Eleven nationwide. This is a 3 month program starting from April 26, 2008. The program is expected to help save 42.5 mega watt of energy and reduce carbon dioxide emission 217 tons. In addition, part of proceeds generating from program will be used to support social responsibility projects of PEA and MEA. Attending the press conference to launch the program “Saving Energy, Saving the World” are the honorably guests including Mr. Adisorn Kiatchokewiwat, PEA Governor, Mr. Pornthape Thunyapongchai, MEA Governor, Mr. Suwit Kingkaew , senior vice president of CP All Public Company and Mr. Prakorn Makjumroen, Chairman and CEO of Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd. The Press Conference organizes on April 24, 2008 at Siam Paragon. Mr. Prakorn Makjumroen, Chairman and CEO of Philips Electronics (Thailand) Ltd., said that combating the effects of climate change and slowing global warming are among the most serious and urgent challenges of our time. Therefore, the program called “Saving Energy, Saving the World” is initiated by the four partners to synergize the power of PEA and MEA to driving Thai people to save more energy and money in the simplest way at 7-Eleven all stores. Philips is Thailand’s energy efficient lighting solution provider while 7-Eleven is Thailand’s leading convenience stores with 4,300 branches operating nationwide enabling Thai consumers to easily buy products. PEA and MEA are the two government enterprises concerned with electricity usage. Mr. Suwit Kingkaew, senior vice president of CP All Public Company Limited, said that “CP All Public Company Limited, operator of 7-Eleven convenience stores, is proud to be a part of this program “Saving Energy, Saving the World”, regarded as one of the social responsibility programs. The company has developed the promotion material to attract 7-Eleven customers to buy energy saving bulb instead of incandescent bulb at 75 Baht and get one soft drink cup worth 10 Baht for free in 7-Eleven stores nationwide. This program will help customers to save electricity cost and combat global warming. The “Saving Energy, Saving the World” program is another attempt to campaign for consumers to make a simple switch to efficient energy use by replacing the incandescent lamp with energy saving bulb so as to reduce the environmental cost from CO2 emission, as parts of an action to combat a global warming. Thus, Philips compact fluorescent lamp, Essential model 8 watt and 14 watt is offered at 75 Baht each, at 7-Eleven stores nationwide. This is a 3 month program starting from April 26, 2008. Consumers will benefit significantly in terms of electricity cost saving. Switching to energy-saving light bulb is worth for investment although initially the cost is a bit higher. The performance and benefit of energy saving light bulb can be compensate on the average energy bills as it can save up to 80 percent on electricity. It has a six-year-lifetime longer than incandescent lamp. Consumers will have a break event point within two months. These benefits will help encourage consumers to replace one incandescent lamp with one energy-saving light bulb before its end-of-life. An advertisement plan is set to promote the “Saving Energy, Saving the World” program through printed media, radio stations and points of sales at 7- Eleven. The program banners will be installed at the PEA and MEA offices nationwide and the promotion material will include in the PEA and MEA electricity bills. Apart from offering Philips Compact Fluorescent Lamp at special price, part of proceeds arising from the program will contribute to support PEA and MEA’s social responsibility programs to create awareness of energy conservation issue among Thai youth. Mr. Adisorn Kiatchokewiwat, PEA Governor, said that “PEA will use the contribution to set up the “Youth save the world — Combating Global Warming” program that will educate 1,200 vocational and high vocational students in PEA responsible areas to be able to work with PEA officer to be able to train communities people to have better knowledge on the energy saving and a solution to counter global warming to 48,000 households. The program is expected to start in October 2008.” Mr. Pornthape Thunyapongchai, MEA Governor said that MEA will use the contribution to fund the “Saving Energy, for Better World” project to enhance the schools’ energy conservation plan implementation as well as to develop the schools to be the pilot energy conservation education institutions. The program “Saving Energy, Saving the World” is another attempt of four partners to campaign and encourage Thai consumers to adopt a simple step to save energy by switching to energy saving bulb. This program does not only help saves consumer expenses and energy but also counter the global warming to secure environment.
