Bangkok--26 May--UN People in Myanmar's cyclone devastated Yangon and Irrawaddy areas began voting in a constitutional referendum early Saturday. Eligible voters holding their identification cards gradually arrived at polling stations when they opened at 6:00 a.m. to cast their ballots. About five million people in the two cyclone affected areas are eligible to vote in the referendum, according to official figures. Myanmar held the referendum on May 10 across the country but voting was postponed until May 24 in all but five of the 45 townships in the Yangon area, and seven out of 26 in the Irrawaddy delta, the areas most stricken by May 2-3 Cyclone Nargis, which the government said has left 130,000 people dead or missing. The United Nations estimates that 1.5 million to 2 million people were severely affected by the cyclone. The government announced earlier that 92.4 percent of the 22 million eligible voters voted for the draft constitution and voter turnout was more than 99 percent at the May 10 referendum.
