The Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre will present “the Heart of the ( Welsh ) Harp” a recital of music from Wales on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 8 p.m. at the Siam Society Auditorium (near BTS and MRT Asoke Station ) Tickets at 500 baht available at the Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre call 02 2614777-8 Elinor Bennett is one of Wales' foremost harpists and is well-known as performer, teacher and ambassador for Welsh Music.She is Director of Harp Studies at the University of Wales, Bangor, and is one of the founders of the Harp College of Wales and the William Mathias Music Centre in Caernafon as well as Visiting Professor of Harp at the Royal Academy of Music. Elinor studied the harp from the age of 11 but graduated in Law at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth before winning a scholarship to study the harp at the Royal Academy of Music with Osian Ellis. She then went on to play with most of Britain's major orchestras and appeared as soloist in main concert halls the world over. In 1985, she was awarded a Fellowship to Australia to study and report upon the development and provision of Music Therapy and, upon her return, pioneerd the promotion of Music Therapy in Wales. Elinor directs courses, seminars and festivals all over England and Wales and harpists from all over the world come to Wales to study with her.She has performed extensively and has made numerous recordings, her wide repertoire encompassing many styles and periods.A number of major contemporary composers have written works specially for her, the latest being the Double Concerto for Harps by Karl Jenkins, commissioned by HRH the Prince of Wales, in which she premiered at the beginning of this year together with her star pupil, Catrin Finch, now her daughter-in-law, married to her youngest son, Hywel.
