Bangkok--11 Jun--Standard & Poor's Standard & Poor's today announced the appointment of Tony Angel as executive managing director and head of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) business. He will report to Deven Sharma, president of Standard & Poor's. Mr. Angel was previously firmwide managing partner at Linklaters, where over the past three decades he advised leading corporations and financial institutions on a variety of complex transactions and developed a deep knowledge of the world's capital markets. During the 10 years in which he served as Linklaters' managing partner, he led its transformation into one of the world's leading global law firms with more than 5,500 people in 30 offices and 23 countries, and turnover in 2007 of more than ?1 billion and profits of more than ?490 million. "The long-term growth outlook for capital markets in the EMEA region presents significant opportunities for Standard & Poor's, and Tony is ideally suited to help us capitalize on those opportunities," said Mr. Sharma. "With more than 30 years of experience at Linklaters working on a wide variety of sophisticated transactions, and 10 years driving the firm's global integration and expansion, he brings a unique combination of proven leadership skills, a keen international perspective and a strong understanding of the capital markets." In this new role, Mr. Angel will lead the continued growth and development of Standard & Poor's activities in EMEA, spanning credit research and ratings, investment indices, equity and fund research, and fixed-income risk management services, with operations in 10 countries across the region. He also will collaborate with global business leaders to establish strategic alliances in emerging capital markets. Mr. Angel will join Standard & Poor's on June 30 and will be based in London. Before becoming firmwide managing partner in 1998, Mr. Angel was a leading tax lawyer and head of the firm's Tax Department.
