Bangkok--18 Jun--Spark Communications Johnson Controls and International School Bangkok Launch First Clinton Climate Initiative Building Retrofit Project in South East Asia Johnson Controls, a global leader in sustainable, one-stop life cycle building solutions announced the signing of a project development agreement with International School of Bangkok (ISB). In partnership with the Clinton Climate Initiative’s (CCI) Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program, this ground breaking project seeks to reduce the environmental impact of the school campus through energy and operational upgrades. This agreement marks the launch of CCI’s building retrofit project in South East Asia. The International School of Bangkok has already implemented several energy saving measures, including a robust recycling and rainwater harvesting program. The partnership with Johnson Controls and the Clinton Climate Initiative will further enhance their current programs and provide a plan for further sustainable growth. The project, which will focus on mechanical systems upgrades, lighting retrofits, water conservation and building improvements, is projected to last several years and will also aim to deliver a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the school. It is anticipated that the energy savings realized as a result of the project will pay for the capital investment within seven years. The Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) applies the Clinton Foundation's business-oriented approach to the fight against climate change in practical, measurable and significant ways. In its first phase, CCI is working with cities around the world to accelerate efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emission. CCI’s Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program brings together many of the world’s largest energy service companies, financial institutions, and cities in a landmark effort to reduce energy consumption in existing buildings across the municipal, private, commercial, educational, and public housing sectors. “This is a very exciting initiative for us. Not only will it produce future operational cost savings, but it will also position us a leader in environmental change development,” said Ugo Costessi, ISB Deputy Head of School and Chief Financial Officer. “Our school has a very proud history and this project will be another milestone in our development. Being the first to implement a building retrofit project in partnership with CCI in South East Asia is also a major achievement,” said Bill Gerritz, Head of the school. Johnson Controls also partnered with CCI’s Building Retrofit Program on its first project development agreement signed globally. Mr. Ian Millar, Country General Manager and Managing Director for Johnson Controls Thailand, said — “It is fantastic to be able to work with ISB on this pioneering program and we hope it will be seen as an example for many other organizations”. “Johnson Controls creates environments for achievement. Studies prove that standardized test scores increase by up to 10% when students are taught in well-maintained learning environments. Johnson Controls creates environments that are comfortable, healthy, efficient, safe, and technologically advanced by delivering program management for facility improvement projects and guaranteeing the results-lower life cycle costs,” said Mr. Millar.
