Bangkok--24 Jun--Aziam Burson-Marsteller The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), in collaboration with True Corporation Plc, the leader in convergence lifestyle, created an IT City allowing Bangkok residents to explore the cyber world via over 15,000 Wi-Fi hotspots on 10 main streets covering an area of more than 400 square kilometers. As part of the ongoing Bangkok Green agenda, Green Bangkok Wi-Fi campaign aims to encourage Internet usage in order to reduce energy consumption while facilitating a modern lifestyle with greater access to knowledge, information and entertainment. These benefits help make Bangkok a truly Sustainable Green City. BMA Governor Apirak Kosayodhin together with Mr. Thiti Nantapatsiri, Managing Director, Home/Consumer Solution & Hi-Speed Access of True Corporation Plc, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the offering of wireless Internet access and rolled out the Green Bangkok Wi-Fi campaign at CentralWorld shopping complex. The initiative was created based on the BMA’s Bangkok Green Agenda using wireless Internet technology to reduce energy consumption and help Bangkok to become a sustainable and livable city of the future. BMA Governor Apirak said, “The Green Bangkok Wi-Fi is part of the Bangkok Green Agenda initiated by the BMA to create a knowledge-based society along with convenience and a safe environment for its residents by introducing wireless Internet access as a substitute for physical travel wherever possible. The goals of this campaign are to save energy, reduce expenses, and enhance convenience for online access to knowledge and information anytime and anywhere, as well as meet the demands of the new generation who are considered a Green Generation with environmental concerns. All these factors will contribute to make Bangkok an ideal city for living. The BMA is committed to implementing the Bangkok Green Agenda in six areas including Green Society — making Bangkok a convenient, economical and modern city; Green Living — happy, wholesome and secure living; Green Zone — natural environment with clean air; Green Generation — creating a world of learning for the new generation; Green Community — warm family relations and close community ties and; Green Economy — a community based on economic sustainability. This is a multi-dimensional internationalized and human-centered development of Bangkok in the areas of quality of life, environment, culture and economy with a focus on sustainable growth. Environmental protection is a key focus to boost Bangkok as the city of the future as it is critical for sustainable growth. Mr. Thiti Nantapatsiri, Managing Director, Home/Consumer Solution & Hi-speed Access, True Corporation Plc said that True has been chosen to roll out the Wi-Fi network covering more than 400 square kilometers throughout Bangkok. This will help make Bangkok a greater IT city that provides more than 15,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, the largest amount in Asia while at the same time ranking Thailand among the top six nations in the world for wireless Internet access. Wi-Fi by TrueMove services under the Green Bangkok Wi-Fi campaign is now available for data search, email and a wide range of other online activities.” For this campaign, the BMA will give away 500,000 free Wi-Fi cards to the public at more than 50 travel centers and leading department stores including CentralWorld, Siam Paragon, Emporium, Central Plaza, Siam Center and The Mall. Interested persons can also register for wireless Internet access privileges at www.truewifi.net. Those who have received a free Wi-Fi card can register at www.truewifi.net and renew their user account every three months to keep it active. The card is valid until June 30, 2009 and the Wi-Fi service is available at no cost at all 15,000 Wi-Fi by TrueMove hotspots at a 64 Kbps connection speed throughout Bangkok.
