Bangkok--25 Jun--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Association of Securities Companies (ASCO) and the Thai Investors Association (TIA) have launched Smart Investors, a program aimed at creating high-value investors, strengthening the Thai capital market, promoting investment and protecting the rights of shareholders. Today’s (June 24) memorandum of understanding, signed by the participants, covered these matters, effective transaction procedures and investor protection. “The initiative will prepare new investors for investing in the capital market and expand the knowledge of existing investors. SEC will focus on shareholders’ rights,” SEC Secretary-General Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala reported. “When investors are aware of their rights, exercise them and participate, listed firms display good corporate governance. Consequently, company performance improves and benefits accrue to shareholders,” SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai noted. “Smart Investors will educate new investors and the public about transaction procedures, privileges, market dynamics and legal matters. This knowledge will maximize investors’ benefits and strengthen confidence in the Thai capital market,” ASCO Chairman Kampanart Lohacharoenvanich said. “The program meets TIA’s mission to be a center for members to exchange opinions on securities investment and protect investors’ rights,” Mr. Wichai Poolworaluk, TIA president, noted.
