Sigve Brekke to take over as CEO of Telenor Asia

Bangkok--4 Jul--DTAC dtac announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Tore Johnsen as dtac’s new CEO, effective September 1.Mr. Sigve Brekke will continue as CEO with the company until the end of August before joining Telenor as CEO of Telenor Asia, succeeding Mr. Arve Johansen, on September 1. Mr. Brekke will also take seat in Telenor’s Group Executive Management. Telenor Asia’s Headquarters are situated in Bangkok, overseeing Telenor’s four existing mobile operations in Asia including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Thailand, as well as exploring possible expansion projects in the region. "During Sigve’s tenure, dtac has grown tremendously and is now one of the most innovative, best known and best liked companies in Thailand. He has served the company as Director since September 2000, as Co-CEO during 2002-2005, and as CEO since 2005. Through successful organizational changes, unique communication and marketing efforts the company’s image and performance have improved significantly under his leadership,” said Mr. Boonchai Bencharongkul, Chairman of The Board of Directors of dtac. Prior to joining dtac, he served as the Managing Director of Telenor’s Singapore Office for three years, responsible for developing and managing Telenor’s investments in Asia. From 1993 to 1996, he served as the Deputy Minister of Defense in the Norwegian Ministry of Defense. Mr. Brekke holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University, John F Kennedy School of Government. "I am looking forward to look after Telenor’s interests in Asia with one of the main responsibilities is to follow up on dtac at the Board and shareholder level. The company’s Board of Directors also appointed Mr. Tore Johnsen as its new CEO. Mr. Tore Johnsen has been the CEO of Telenor Pakistan since the start-up in 2004, succeeding a four year period as Strategic Director and later CEO of DiGi Telecommunications in Malaysia. Working in the Telenor Group since 1974, he has held a number of managerial positions. Mr. Johnsen holds a Master of Science in addition to studies in International Business Management. His tenure in Telenor Pakistan is a statement of his capabilities, having led Telenor Pakistan from a number six to a number two position in only four years.
