Bangkok--8 Jul--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bank of the Lao PDR (BOL). The agreement opens the way for cooperation in information exchange on regulatory arrangements, market operations, capital market education and other areas of mutual benefit. The MOU also promotes business opportunities, such as the joint venture companies between the Lao PDR and Thai to be listed on both exchange and the formation of joint-venture securities companies in Lao PDR (LPDR), involving both Lao and Thai financial institutions. These joint ventures will contribute to the development of both capital markets, SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai said. “The Exchange places a high priority on creating alliances and regional linkages, because increased collaboration and cooperative development strengthens all ASEAN capital markets and economies,” Ms. Patareeya noted. “By offering LPDR its experience in capital market education and investor base expansion programs, SET will not only contribute to the establishment of a securities exchange in our country but will also create opportunities for the Thai capital market and economy,” BOL Governor Phouphet Khamphounvong noted. The Exchange’s capacity-building assistance to BOL will consist of human resource development, including instructional courses and on-the-job training programs related to the development of a capital market in LPDR.
