Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala re-appointed as SEC Secretary-General

Bangkok--15 Jul--SEC The Cabinet today re-appointed Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala as Secretary-General of the SEC Office for another term, effective immediately. Earlier, the newly-formed SEC Board had resolved to recommend Thirachai for another term in office, considering his remarkable qualifications in terms of knowledge, caliber and experience as well as his outstanding past performance. The re-appointment will allow him to carry on the mandate of promoting the Thai capital market to become internationally recognized. Upon enactment of the Securities and Exchange Act (No.4) B.E. 2551, the SEC was restructured to enhance operational efficiency, independence, and flexibility. In addition to the SEC Board, who is responsible for policy making with regard to supervision and development of the overall market, the Capital Market Supervisory Board (CMSB) is to be established to perform the duty of issuing rules and regulations governing day-to-day operational matters in relation to securities business undertaking, securities issuance and offering, Stock Exchange, securities depository center, clearing house, securities registrar, industry associations and acquisition of securities for business takeover. The CMSB comprises Secretary-General as Chairman, Deputy Secretary-General, Director-General of the Fiscal Policy Office, and not exceeding four experts, at least two of whom must have experience in managing listed companies or securities firms, appointed as Board members. For the next step, the SEC Chairman and the Secretary-General will jointly propose a list of qualified persons to be appointed as expert members of the CMSB to the Nominating Committee, who will in turn propose the nominated persons for appointment by the Finance Minister.
