Bangkok--18 Jul--Vero Public Relations The Business Software Alliance (BSA) distributed checks worth 45,000 Baht, 77,000 Baht and 108,000 Baht as rewards for concerned software users who called the BSA Hotline 02-711-6193 to report software piracy. BSA grants cash rewards when phone calls to the hotline result in successful police enforcement actions against companies using pirated/unlicensed software. In these three cases, pirated/unlicensed software found as a result of the calls to the BSA hotline includes commonly available business software used for photo-editing, computer-aided design, animation, anti-virus protection, operating system, word processing, translation, etc. All of the software copyrights belong to members of BSA such as Adobe, Autodesk, Microsoft, Symantec, and Thai Software Enterprise amongst others. Mr. Tarun Sawney, Director - Anti Piracy, Asia, Business Software Alliance (BSA) said “BSA would like to congratulate these people for being forthright and having the integrity to come forward to report on the suspected use of pirated/unlicensed software in the companies.” Pol. Col. Sarayuth Pooltanya, ECOTEC Deputy Commander, said, “The identity of the callers to the BSA hotline is protected and anonymous. More people should follow this example by reporting on companies they suspect are using pirated/unlicensed software. By doing so, they are doing the right thing and helping the police rid software piracy in the workplace.” Over the last few months, BSA has warned company directors and senior management of companies to respect the intellectual property rights of software owners by using only original and licensed software. According to the copyright law of Thailand, it is a criminal offence to use unlicensed software in a business. Company found guilty of using pirated/unlicensed software is subject to a fine of 100,000 to 800,000 Baht, or a jail term of 6 months to 4 years, or both. Concerned software users should call BSA anti-piracy hotline 1-800-291-005 (toll-free) or 02-711-6193 or log on to www.bsa.org to report the use of pirated or unlicensed software in their organizations. The identities of callers are kept strictly private and confidential. BSA provides a reward of up to 250,000 Baht for any information that result in a successful enforcement action.
